Less than 15% of the total owners of an XBox utilize online... although I'm sure there are those that have purchased the system multiple times to increase the sales numbers higher than it should be....

From the way some people make it seem, you'd think this number would be a LOT higher...

Online play is still growing. For me, it has changed the way I play games. The last game I got that didn't have online play was....um....probably MVP 2004. And there are enough people online that it doesn't really bother me that a lot of people are missing out.

You have to take into consideration that most people still do not have DSL/Cable and cannot utilize the XBL feature. Of those who do have DSL/Cable, not all of those have an XBOX or any gaming console. Plus the feature is still relatively new to gamers and casual gamers may tend to stay away from the feature because they have to pay for it.

Worldwide? Based on here in Canada that's no suprise. XBL cost too much here so I'm sure it cost even more in other places.

I'm glad you feel that way. I think online play is here to stay but it'll never be THE main thing in the gaming industry. As long as its a strong yet niche market it'll survive.

Those who want online gaming to be the main thing in the gaming industry may regret it as I have a feeling it's something that'll be abused and lead to even more cheesers and arrogant ppl.

So enjoy the "underground" quality of it as long as you can.

I don't think overall user numbers should speak for whether or not XBL is the way to go. There could be 100,000 users and it'd still be better than PS2 online imho.

Online play is very much over rated to me. The quality of online experience is based upon who you play with. Play with cool people on OS and it's usually good. (Although we couldn't even get 4 games into our college basketball league, and we tried twice cuz people just stopped )showing up. Play with random a$$ clowns and it's hit or miss.

I just got tired of the crap on Halo 2 online. I liked the ranked games when you had good players, but if you got idiots, racists, e-thugs, quitters, cheaters, 5 yr old screaming children...it's too much.

This is why I'll take a quality franshise mode over online play ANY day of the week. To me online is the icing on the cake, but nowhere near the most important part.

Oh and from my understanding XBL is the way to go as it's smoother than the PS2 online? Or at least it was at first. I don't know personally cuz I've never been online with the ps2. But with the PS2 can't you play on dial up? Or is it broadband only?

That about sums up my feelings for online play. I don't like having to "look" for "quality" people to play with. When time is at a premium, I don't want to spend the sole hour I have free looking for a good game. That's why it's not worth it to pay, IMO....

You can play dial up on some games... but it's very easy to avoid dial up users. Stick with BB and I've had some games even smoother than XBL. (Free, at that) The only thing I've noticed is that games connect a lot faster on XBL to start, but I don't know if it has to do more with the optical drive than the actual connection.

I have had zero issues with LIVE. Best online gaming experience for consoles. Not even close IMO.

Agreed. I got XBL for NCAA 2005 and Burnout 3. Was well worth the price of admission.

My thoughts too. I definately do not think XBL is worthy of my money, I have played some PS2 games online with friends and a headset and its fun, but with randoms, it is just as described above. I will hang on to the PS2 online but Microsoft won't be getting my $70, only time I will use XBL is with a free trial and only to grab the Links downloads.

I have not played more than 6 games on XBL, and they were all NCAA 2005 when it came out. I have never really gotten into online gaming. I won't be renewing my subscription come September. XBL was a waste of my money.
