    Is this Legal?

Guys, mods especially, this is not intended to discuss modding, etc. etc. etc... what I am wondering, is if this is legal:

    At the bottom, it says:

"(11) Pre-modded, with 1MB MediaKey II legal modchip (with two-bank BIOS)"

You can get on XBOX live with it, and still perform all the duties of a normal XBox. My only question is, why/how is it a legal modchip? What differentiates one from another?

I am considering buying one of these since my other XBOX has bitten the dust. Especially with the $100 rebate for your old XBOX, it doesnt' seem like too bad of a deal. Just wondering what the deal is behind the "legal" MediaKey.

Anyone know? Care to shed some light on the subject?

    Thanks guys,

    Will

You can also install an extra 64MB of RAM which is supposed to make everything run more smoothly.

I didn't know that there were products out there like this for the XBOX. A heatsink would be nice to keep that bad boy from overheating as well.

    Anybody have any input?

    Thanks guys,

as soon as you load up a backed up copy of any game that is Live! aware, you will be banned from XBL

Couldn't I, when I wanted to play on Live, just use the disc?

hmmm I dunno.....I don't think a modchip can ever be considered legal.

So long as no one is advocating/giving advice on illegal activities I guess this thread can go on.

I don't think it is illegal to have a modchip in your Xbox to back up games you already own.
However it is illegal if you pirate the games (such as renting a game and saving it to your hard drive and then returning the game)
You will be banned form Xbox Live if they detect the modchip.

I hate to undermind a fellow mod, but according to the TOS, this thread can't exist.

Linking or giving information about any site that distributes illegal software, ROMs, media, mods/chips, or emulators, seeking help to circumvent any copyright laws, admitting to possessing and/or distributing illegal copyrighted material, or encouraging software or media piracy is grounds for ban depending on the offense. This goes for all copyrighted material, including but not limited to games, movies, music, and videos.
