    Maybe I don't get it...

...or maybe I've missed something (I admittedly am not a tech guru, so those of you in the know feel free to help me out here), but I don't see a real difference in XBOX and XBOX 360 graphics. Sure, it appears there are a lot of custimization options and other gimmicks, but I thought we were getting a PS1/Dreamcast to PS2/XBOX type of graphical jump.

Do not confuse me as a fanboy of any system! I own both concoles now and love both for different reasons. I just had high hopes for this next round, and so far I'm not too impressed. Seems kinda like just buying a new PC to me. Anyone? Help?

I don't know Gears of War, PGR3, Ghost Recon 3, NBA 2K6, condemned, and a few others. Look alot better than anything on the current consoles. All the articles on the games mention they're in alpha or pre-alpha stage of developement. 30-50% complete

These games are also running on alpha kits

"Running on alpha Xbox 360 development kits (machines that possess only two of the three CPU cores in the final spec, as well as a run-of-the-mill ATI graphics card as opposed to the final, custom GPU set)" - 1UP.com

The current kits are nowhere near the power that the final kits will be. Trust me games look alot better, when it gets closer to launch. Also, i'm sure they saved the good builds of these games for E3, which is what Gamespot said.

obvious differences would be frame rate, and no slow down. but when you look closer you'll see every detail, no pixels are visable, everything looks "lined". It's a new shading technique that for the most part you only see on pricey CPUs.

IMO, the developers are just getting a feel for what the 360 can do. So I'm holding off judgement til the games that follow the launch come out. But I gotta say that a handful of the games, mainly NBA 2k6, look amazing and we still have several months before launch date.

Sorry to be a stickler for details, but by definition, the Dreamcast is technically a console based on current generation technology. It was the first of this generation's consoles to be released, followed by PS2, then XBox and Dreamcast.

As for the jump in graphical beauty, it's not all about graphics. Sure, it plays a huge role in it, but watching the MTV thing last night and hearing some of the things mentioned, we can look forward to online FPS games with the ability to have up to 60 people in on one map at the same time, plus gaming environments that are completely interactive.

Gone are the days of being able to shoot a rocket launcher into a wall, only to see a little black spot on it where the rocket hit. With this generation, the damn wall will fall down.
