Re: Developer interviews: Gears of War, Kameo, and PGR 3
Xbox.com: What wholly original gameplay and design elements will, in your opinion, knock gamers' proverbial socks off?
Bleszinski: The Gears of War combat system will be the most compelling to date. The artificial intelligence will not only be smart, but it will also be tangible to the gamer, allowing him to figure out situations and react dynamically. Combat cover will be deep and necessary for survival, requiring players to kick over tables, knock over pillars, and blow apart foes' safety spots in order to dig them out and annihilate them. Finally, players will really feel like they’re never alone in this universe. If they don’t have a friend to hop in and kick *** with them, we’ll provide the best A.I. pals anyone has ever seen to team up with.
Interesting parts
Knowing that you're aiming for Xenon does help in the design. But obviously, when you're writing for a machine that doesn't exist yet, there are problems that you can encounter on the way. You end up developing the game alongside the hardware—which is great in some ways, as you work out problems together with the hardware people. But it can also be stressful, too, especially at the start, as there's nothing powerful enough to run your code and graphics in their full glory!
My point exactly, these games aren't even running on the actual hardware that will be in the system.Go Noles!!! >>-----> -

Kameo
"In gameplay terms, we were able to fully realize one major element that wasn't possible on the Xbox, and that's the battlefield level. To have over 3,000 characters actively fighting and running individual A.I. on a vast landscape was something you dream of being able to realize. But working on the next Xbox meant we could reach those high numbers and make something truly incredible."
