Re: 60
Everquest 2 > wow (for now anyways)
I had not read or heard anything about the dreaded 60 wall when playing wow. Got the dwarf pally to 60 and the shammy to 57, before i got sick of running the same instances. The game turned into nothing other than "get the best gear" game. I wanted more than that, something else to do with the community and any other option other than fighting.
EQ2 started off real slow, and i was very close to cancelling, but i stayed with it and now i am totally hooked. There is just so damn much stuff to do in eq2 its crazy. I like the added depth it brings. Crafting is more involved, and the stuff you make is actually useful.
Wow is initally good, and for that i am grateful. it provided well over 6 months of gaming for me, and opened my eyes to a genre which i refused to even look at before ( since UO pre-trammel actually). But it's longevity leaves much to be desired. Running strat/scholo/UBRS/LBRS/DM over 30 times each, cause there is just nothing else to do.
i might return to wow in the future, but i think its safe to say that the inital awe of the game completely disapears at the current end game.Last edited by Bacardi151; 08-08-2005, 11:52 AM.Comment

Re: 60
I have not yet hit the lvl 60 wall (I have lvl 36 Warrior, lvl 32 Hunter, lvl 30 Priest and lvl 10 Paladin) and currently enjoying WOW. I agree that crafting is kind of worthless and hope Blizzard ramps that up a a bit. Just wondering if I could get more bang for my buck by switching to EQ2. Is there any other comparisons you could make between the two games?Originally posted by Bacardi151Everquest 2 > wow (for now anyways)

Re: 60
my best advice is to not listen to anyone and try it out yourself. I enjoyed wow, but wanted more than what blizzard was offering, so i looked at eq2. To me, it has more depth, is a bit more complex than wow, and there is a bit more to do then just fighting.
I think the biggest hurdle with eq2 is getting away from the wow mentality, which will hit you like a bag of bricks when starting eq2. Once you understand the flow of the game, and the reasons why things are done the way they are, you begin to see the games potential. According to others, SOE went back and fixed a ton of things which were killing the game at launch.
Another thing, the game has a much slower pace. Some may like this, others may not; simply means you have to invest a bit more time to get the same satisfaction you got from half the time in wow. however, the rewards in eq2 are more fulfilling, and SOE has made it more casual and solo friendly. YMMV
The other thing that pushed me away from WOW is game engine itself doesnt seem to be very flexible(world is static and is staying that way). The world will not change, there will be no server events, and there is nothing you will do that will change the environment in any way. I was already part of a couple of eq2 live events. they werent epic in scale, but enough to say "wow, thats pretty damn cool". WOW becomes a race to see how who can get the best weapon first and once there, you wait....till a better weapon is released. No real community, no guilding options, no housing; basically nothing to foster a community.
Will eq2 be more flexible? not sure yet, as many complain about the end game and not having anything to do ( which i question as you have to really GRIND to get to the level cap , which will be increased come expansion in sept). in any case, eq2 seems to be the game for the long term. wow for the short term and in spurts. I have friends who enjoy wow for what it is, and dont mind because they just want something to pick up and play for a couple of hours.
I wanted more, so i picked up eq2, and glad i stuck to it.
oh btw, i am such a thread hijacker! congrats on 60 injun

Re: 60
if I ever get myself a gaming pc, then I'll check out EQ2. A couple Wow buddies of mine headed over there.
I loved WoW when it was new, and I was discovering things along with other good people who were exploring like me. But now, everyone knows everything, and it's lost its lustre. Quests aren't done to 'do a quest', they're done to advance your character or get some reward. So it started feeling like people were rushing through things too quickly for a person like me to enjoy them. And it sucks that all those people who've 'done everything in the game' just go around ganking all day. It just becomes a hassle.I'm sofa king, we Todd Ed.Comment

Re: 60
i think you nailed it. WOW is all about 'phat lewt' and has no sense of community. Not having the tools to create and maintain that community might be blizzard's business model with this game. Just give enough so the turnover is about 6 months. But i am not sure you will hear too many people 10 years from now saying how they played wow for 5 years and met friends, etc the same way you heard those stories from everquest(which i never played mind you, just from stories i have heard from friends).Originally posted by snivlemif I ever get myself a gaming pc, then I'll check out EQ2.
