BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO game is set to be 'officially' unveiled later this month, CVG has learnt.

The long-awaited online Star Wars - perhaps the games industry's worst kept secret - is being developed by BioWare Austin, which has been tinkering away behind the scenes on the title for over two years.

Officially the company hasn't admitted to any sort of Star Wars link with its MMO, but EA boss John Riccitiello let slip earlier this year that the RPG developer was in fact working on the online KOTOR, claiming that it is "quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry."

But it looks like the game won't (officially at least) be a secret for long. LucasArts and BioWare look set to lift the lid on a KOTOR MMO within the next 30 days.

Backing up all this is the strongest confirmation yet (other than EA's boss saying it's in the works, of course) from UK newspaper, The Daily Star, of all places.

A column that appeared last Saturday reports that the rag is soon off to San Francisco to "file an exclusive report on the game", after stating that BioWare is working on "a MMO of Knights of the Old Republic".

So you won't be giving it a shot.

And given the support required from devs in a MMO it makes sense. Can't wait to hear about it though, from what I've read Star Wars Galaxies was just crappy, but a Star Wars MMO is a great concept in Bioware's hands!

Heresy.

SWG in its release form was amazing, and the deepest, sandbox type of MMO I've ever seen. The Jedi just ruined it (which is hard for me to say with a straight face, since I went racing to unlock my Jedi and did so 6 months after launch).

After they gave out the "Christmas Holocrons" in Dec of 2003 I think it was, it all went to hell.

It's still the only game I know of that allowed you to do anything....zero combat, or full combat. Own a shop, manage droids (who were your employees, running your store when you're offline), train your skills in any combination that you want across all trees, get xp in specific skills and just use those skills if you want.

I mean, it was revolutionary at the time. So far beyond the norm that the traditional MMO people got lost and started cancelling since they didn't really know what to do once you left the first city you were at. That's when they decided to do revamp after revamp after revamp. My Jedi went from super powerful to useless to mediocre, until I finally just wiped out the account.

It was far from crappy in the beginning...but it's pretty mediocre now lol

Its still running??? I heard a lot of people say after the game went to a new fighting engine (I think that was what they changed) that a lot of the launch players hated it and bailed.

Yeah, it's still running. A lot of players left, but they got a lot of new players that wanted that style of game.

I haven't played it in over a year, personally...but I know it's still running.
