    Re: Aion

    Just a little... update.

For those of you on the US servers, I play on [West]Fregion. I now have a 13 Gladiator (my first character) and a 14 Cleric (Main). I have also found a decent legion of friendly people, although only time will tell how it will work out it seems off to a good start. Here's my quick rundown of the game:

    Pros
    - Beautiful world. The graphics in this game amaze me, without slowing my laptop down. It also helps when I have it hooked up to my 32'' flat screen. Downright amazing on there.

    - Combat. From what I've seen (PvE only here, mind you) it is fairly balanced. I haven't run into the need to group yet so I am only speaking as to my survivability/risk when it comes to solo play.

    - Itemization. As for the lower levels, gear does help out. Ask a Scout.

    - The locator on quests. All the quest help you get in general. Don't have to spend 80 years on the same quest looking for the one person who is hidden in a corner of the cities 3rd bank (I'm looking at you, EverQuest.)

    Cons
    - No instancing/grouping needs pre-20 really. I'm expecting my first instance group to be PAINFUL as people are learning their roles and determining that this is, indeed, NOT WoW.

    Just my .02.

      Re: Aion

I was about to add some more updates but I haven't got onto my server as of yet. I'm on the UK Castor and the queue times have gotten pretty large. I have limited time to play during the week and right now I'm looking at a queue time of 1 hr 35 mins. Dissapointing but kind of what I expected.

        Re: Aion

I got my Templar up to Level 15 now and some pretty nice powers to go along with my sword/shield combo. I can even take on some Level 17 mobs. It is taking me some time to level though, which I hear most people have, but the need for a tank is always there so joining up in groups hasn't been a problem.

A long way to Level 25 but my interest is definitely keeping.

            Re: Aion

my whole draw on why i like this game is that its not WOW. I hated that game, it was nothing but a loot pinata. Like speical ed class. everyone wins. THese games shouldnt be like that. there needs to be risk vs reward.

I am only up to 23, but i took about 4 days off with cpu issues.

I am a WoW player and think Aion is very similar.

And can you play it on a Mac? Not natively, but I'm running it on my iMac via Windows Bootcamp. It runs ok.

Yeah I only played it the first month. Will probably look into it again after that update.

That was one impressive trailer but that looks way too graphics heavy for an mmo.

                      Re: Aion

I played when it came out and really enjoyed it until I hit like 34ish.

Ran the first instance, training grounds or whatever for 4 levels and never saw even one drop from the boss. Thought things would get better when I got into the Fire Temple and pretty much did that 12-13 times and never saw the boss drop 1 item there either.

Ended up working on crafting for gear and got to the point to where you needed over 20-30million kinah per attempt to try to craft the rare to go past that point and was like fug it.

Made it down to the level 30-40 zone and the quest experience was worse than if you just killed 4-5 mobs, so it was pointless. Last I remember I needed around 36 million exp to level and just grinding on the same goats , lepharists , whatever was unappealing.

Combat in the rift was horrible. We did rift raids where you would take the fortresses and pounding on a door for 10 minutes to open it was no fun and then we would go down the ramps to the boss, and even with 50 people in the room attacking the boss...it still took 25-30 mins just to kill it. Hitting...1.2.3.1.2.3.1.2.3.1.2.3.1.2.3.1.2.3 for 30 mins was stupid. No strategy needed whatsoever.

Amazing looking game and looked very promising to start out with, but everything 30+ had to have been an aftertrhough to the developers.

Biggest complaint I hear about this game is the end game. Considering it has been out for over a year and a half in Asia you think this would have been ironed out by now considering technically it isn't a brand new MMO. I can understand when things don't quite work out right away in Conan or Warhammer but not for Aion.
