    Fallen Earth

A real under the radar game. Post apocalyptic world.

If you have gotten bored with the path mmo's seem to be taking in making things too easy then you might want to give this one a look. The learning curve isn't as steep as Eve but it is a lot steeper than most.

Combat is a mix of fps and skill based. You have to have your target reticule on the target and then the game makes a roll based on your skills.

Crafting is huge in this game. It is most similar to pre-NGE SWG crafting very in-depth and the items you craft and use make a difference and are better than anything you will pick up in the early levels. It creates an interesting dynamic because money is hard to come by in the early levels and crafting can both suck up your cash and create a little cash flow if you can find the right recipe ingredients to sell for a profit.

The game has levels but everything really revolves around skills. You decide where to spend your skill points. This works out great with the potential for frustration. You can end up gimping yourself. But you can also work outside of the normal min/max philosophy and be successful. No class based bindings so the group dynamics will be interesting. The actual leveling is fairly slow compared to the newer games but with the skill system you are constantly deciding how to spend skill points so actual level has very little to do with it. You don't feel like you are just trying to grind to the next level.

Content is very solid at the early levels and will hopefully hold up. The end game is a big question for most. There are a few bugs but the only bugs I have encountered are bugged crafting nodes and such.

Some talk of the graphics being below average but to me the game looks really good. Not sure if it has something to do with pc specs or if some people just don't like the gritting, dirty post-apocalyptic environment. It isn't Aion quality but it is as good if not better than Champions to me.

As someone who has played them all, got burnt out by them all, and has been less than impressed by the new crop of mmo's, this game has been a pleasant surprise. This game brings back the new feel where everything isn't handed to you and you have to work to figure things out. If you are into either mmo's or the whole post-apocalyptic environment then I really don't think you would be disappointed by this game.
