my high school number in basketball was #19 and football it was #49 (most of the time, i had like 3 different football numbers) baseball was #9 every year - all the way from little league up through high school.

i tried to have the number 9 in all of my numbers.

i know in alabama, and i think college, its against the rules to have a number that contains the numbers 6-9. something about the ref not being able to call a foul with one hand or something....

            anyways...good interview

I don't think that is the reason.

              Good interview!

most high schools and colleges dont give certain numbers out in basketball for that reason, but it's not against the "rules" - at least not at my school a decade ago.

actually, i know thats the reason here in the state. the ref has to call a foul in a certain motion. when he goes to the scoring table, he only holds up one hand to show the players number. so # 34 = he shows 3 fingers then 4.....

i know because i was a ref for intramurals and they had some state ref come in and 'instruct' us

and in high school one time, we got two techincal free throws at the beginning of the game, because one of the other players had the # 7

pointless i know, but im sure alot of people arent aware of that.

there arent any college guys that have numbers that contain 6-9 are there?

it's an "unwritten" rule in high school and college

but my high school gave kids pretty much any number they wanted. I had #19 my freshman and soph years

hate to prove you wrong in your own thread ....

taken from the "Teams and uniforms" section
At the high school and college levels, numbers generally range from 1-5, 10-15, 20-25, 30-35, 40-45, and 50-55, plus 0 and 00; in NCAA basketball, these are the only legal numbers. In some states, high school teams must wear even-numbered jerseys if they're the home team and odd-numbered jerseys if they're considered the visitor. Also, teams may have either 0 or 00, but not both. Uniform numbers in the NBA are generally the same, although many players have worn numbers above 55 (like Dennis Rodman, who wore No. 91 while playing with the Chicago Bulls).

well after reading that like 10 times, i guess we were half right.
high school is 'unwritten' and NCAA is required

well i wore #19 most of the time for 2 years in high school so it must not have been illegal in high school in my district in 1990 or 91. although, I do remember comments about it

i can understand why it is an absolute rule in college because the crowds can get so big.

anyway, the reason for #9 is because that was my baseball number EVERY year starting in little league...because of that i use it a lot. and because of that i used it in high school basketball much of the time and in AAU youth basketball tourneys during high school. It's even in my number on my church league teams nowadays

lol, I believe that this might be the first thread ever on OS where someone is talking about what uniform numbers he had.
