I first started reading Operation Sports in the late winter/early spring of 2004. I was particularly interested in the MVP info. I came here from the IGN Boards, where I started my video game forum writing. Originally, under the name LetsGoOakland but after I moved out of my dorm that year, I lost the password and I believe the account had been deleted so I started a new one last summer. The IGN Boards were getting very inflamatory and OS was offering the most info on the game. I really liked being able to talk to people who played the beta verison of the game as IGN likes to make itself "one with God" and unable to answer many questions. Plus, a site dedicated to sports was a nice change of pace when dealing with updates from Hilary Goldstein, who appeared to have never watched a baseball game in his life.
What made you decide to donate to Operation Sports?
Aside from being able to customize my label, I really wanted to help out the site that has made sports-gaming much more to my liking (in-depth reviews, pictures, Q&As, roster downloads, open discussions about flaws and wishlists [I could write a dissertation about MVP, Madden and NCAA games).
Your favorite Sports Teams?
Oakland Raiders, Oakland Athletics, Golden State Warriors, Arizona Wildcats
What are your hobbies?
Politics and history (major/minor), sports, sports-gaming and writing. In high school, I spent two years in the student newspaper and was the World News editor.
It's sad but I really do not have many "hobbies." The ones I do have are quite time-demanding. Unlike in sports, there are no offseasons in politics. Unlike the stock market, politics do not seize at 5pm. News/history/politics are constant and it requires constant attention.
Tell us about about your family?
Born in Oakland, California, in November 1984 I grew up in a family of four childen (myself the second oldest) until my mother died in 1992 of cancer. Before her death, she asked her mom, Jennie, to take care of us after she was gone. My mom was a stay-at-home, PTA chair, team mom kind of mother and wanted to make sure someone was there when my dad worked (usually until 7 or 8 because of his long commute). My then-future-step-mom moved in with her daughter in 1994 and we moved from Hayward to Danville in the summer of 1996. Her daughter was a year older than my older brother. In 2000, she went to Baylor, he to Chico State. Two years later, I came to Arizona. Right now, my younger brother is a senior in high school (who is on this site as well as MartyJannetty) and my little sister is a freshman at the same high school. My parents sold the Danville house to move into a smaller one before moving to Texas when my younger sister graduates high school.
