    Nasal Surgery

I don't know if anyone has gone through any nasal surgery, but I'm scheduled to have turbinate reduction surgery on the 5th. They might fix my deviated septum as well.

So, anyone know anything about what I should expect? I was told it would be quick.

General Anathesia is when you're asleep during surgery right? If so all you have to expect is a needle then asked to count backwards from 100 and you're knocked out. The farthest i've ever gotten is to 85

yeah...you may feel nauseous when you wake up from general anastesia, and your throat will be kinda scratchy and pissed off from the breathing tube down your throat

          Re: Nasal Surgery

I might be of some help:

General Anathesia isn't bad at all. Just like SPTO stated. It's like an IV. It's the other type of anathesia where they stick a tube in your throat. I've had both and the second is 100x worse.

I've had surgery 2 times on my nose. I broke it playing baseball (slid into 3rd and got smacked with the ball). First time didn't completely fix it so I had to have another surgery because I was having trouble breathing.

Sounds like your procedure won't be too involved. Both of mine were 3 hours long, but they also had to straighten the septum and fix the airway so I could breath better. IMO it was just sore afterwards. The worst part for me was that they packed a ton of cotton into my nose to keep the septum and everything from moving. A week or so later they took it out and that didn't feel too good.

            Your getting a nose job?

What's a matter not happy with your body? Why not get some breast implants while your at it.

But good luck with it, and my uncle happens to be an Anathesiaologist.

What's the recovery time for the septum, a week?

I heard the turbinate reduction is quick and I could go back to school (but why would I want to?).

I've always had massive congestion, and I've been told this will fix it.

I've tried so many prescription drugs it isn't even funny any more.

Mine was a while ago so my memory is fuzzy, but I think it was 1 week recovery time. After that I got the cotton out, but still had splints inside my nose. Those came out 2-3 weeks later. I still wasn't able to do much for a while afterwards (ie: play sports or something where I could get hit in the nose).

With mine I broke my nose and had a deviated septum. First time they set everything back, but as I grew, things moved and the septum moved to the side which closed off 75% of the airway. Second surgery the Dr. (different Dr. who was better) re-broke my nose and re-set my septum. Same recovery time and everything.

I just had turbinate reduction over thanksgiving. Was in and out rather quickly and was back at work the next day.No Big deal there.

I had deviated septum surgery many years ago and it was a pain. Was out a liitle over a week. The packing was uncomfortable and the pain lingered for a while(not to mention the black eyes I got a day after the surgery)

I hav had it done twice(turbine reduction) over eight years. It is not permanent and the tissues do grow back.

Sounds similar to what I had done a couple years ago... I had nasal polyps, and I had a surgical procedure done to take thme out.... The weird thing is that originally, I thought I needed some work done on my teeth... I went cross-town to a dentist, only to find out that there was nothing wrong with my teeth... The dentist tells me that I may have some nasal polyps which are creating pressure in my sinuses, thus giving me the pain I had in my tooth... The surgery was a breeze, although I didn't really knock out until I was in the recovery room... That packing was horrific, though... It irritated the inside of my nose, and it made me sneeze constantly.
