Whoa this thread is old.

FWIW I have barbacked the past two summers at a resort restaurant while home for summer break. Like someone said, you get a cut from the bartender's tips. I also made 5.50/hr on top of the tips. And if you bust your butt the bartender often throws you extra.

Being a server/waiter is where the money is at though, and that's what I hope to do this upcoming summer.

I just got done with bartending school last week.

Hoping to make a decent amount of money seeing as I just moved to Miami.

Anybody have any idea about how much, on average, a bartender makes every night?

Seriously. Finance didn't work out for me. I'm a cop and going to make about $60K this year with all my "off duty" work. (I'm 25 btw)

40 hours/week ... work with a bunch of guys I enjoy being around ... live life comfortably.

Not for everyone but for me it has been a great decision.

In my free time I'm studying how to invest my money. Therefore I'm not letting my intellect go completely to waste!

Health Science with my concentration in Exercise Science.

So it's not like I'm a Psychology or Art major or something.

That's exactly what I'm going to do when I start making some decent money. Invest. Hopefully do a good enough job that I won't have to work if I don't have to.

I have my Bachelors to go along with three certifications and couldn't find good work. What kind of mess is that? lol

By the way...What are some good books that you can recommend? Some books that aren't biased telling me only one way to invest and how their way is the best way preferably.

As they say, just keep looking. Worst they can say is "no".

Then once you get in there live below your means. Honestly I wish I did a better job of that. I didn't go overboard but I'm living at my means.
