ObjectDock website. There is a free version available on their site, but it does not provide you with multiple tab functionality. This free version is fairly primitive. If you would like the enhanced version, either buy it, or go wherever you go to pirate applications. Obviously, I can't tell you where.
I use the program as a launcher type application, as you can see from my desktop screenshot. I set it to hide as a "draw", so to speak, so when I click on a particular tab, it opens up and becomes active. I find the program to be insanely useful, as I simply can't imagine using a desktop computer without it anymore. It also allows my desktop to be very neat, for the most part, because I can organize things like the Recycle Bin and My Computer under my "main" tab. Things to keep in mind when using:
- If you install a lot of nifty little widgets that report the weather, time, or any dynamic type of content, your memory usage takes a serious hit. At least, this was the case for me. I only use ObjectDock as an app launcher now, and not as anything else (I turned off the kickass zooming effect when you mouse over an icon as well). As I type, my instance of ObjectDock is consuming about 1.1 MB of memory. When I had simply 1 date related widget running (it dynamically displayed the date with a cool little icon)my memory usage spiked to > 15 MB.
- I had a problem about a year ago when trying to watch DVD's on my computer with ObjectDock. I couldn't play full screen videos of any kind, and it was driving me ballistic. I finally realize it was ObjectDock causing the problem, and the fix was to literally move the tab to a different part of the screen. This is why I have it on the right side of my desktop, and not the top, left, or bottom.
- It's fun to get the coolest icons for your apps. I've spent a lot of time getting kickass ones from http://www.wincustomize.org. And yes, I have no life. Check out this completely kickASS icon that some dude made for Nero, which I happen to be using now. This is just flat out cool as hell: http://www.wincustomize.com/ViewSkin...=9315&LibID=29
Another choice you could use is a program called YzDock. There are probably others as well, including simply a primitive Windows dock if you wish. You can't get sweetass icons with that, however.
