    2006 Hurricane Season

First off, before talking about the upcoming season, they just retired 5 Hurricanes from last season. Those being Katrina, Rita, Dennis, Stan and Wilma, so those names will never be used again.

As far as this upcoming Hurricane season, unfortunately they're saying it's going to be very active and it sounds like it's going to be just as bad as last year, if not worse.

I can't believe we're just two months away from the start of the Hurrican season.

    Above-average Activity
Scientists are calling for above-average activity this year as well, predicting 17 named tropical storms, nine hurricanes and five major hurricanes – Category three or higher. An average season has 9.6 named storms, 5.9 hurricanes and 2.3 major hurricanes, according to the National Weather Service.

“Though these statistical predictions cannot portend when any of the storms will form or where they will go, forecasters calculate an 81 percent chance that at least one major hurricane will hit the U.S. coast in 2006,” according to the Live Science Web site.

There is an above-average chance that a major hurricane will make landfall in the Caribbean as well, according to the Web site.

This is really a shame, because there are so many people still cleaning up from last years storms. I couldn't imagine having my home destroyed, then rebuilding only to have it destroyed again. That's what some of these people are going to go through.

    And for those curious...

I've never heard of a Beryl. Is that a mix between Bert and Darryl?

            That's my grandmother's name.

Anywho the scarier thing about this current season coming up is that they're predicting that NY could be hit with a cat 3 or stronger hurricane. The Northeast is overdue for one as well so it may actually happen.

We get snow, the South gets hurricanes, just how the world works and us northerners are fine with it.

Um, you do know there's been hurricanes in the northeast? NY has had a couple Cat. 3-4 hurricanes and the last was in the '50s so we're long overdue.

Hell, Toronto got wacked by Hurricane Hazel in the 50s as well.

I know we do, when I was a kid we got hit by a smaller one in Vermont. But I am fine with them tormenting the South. I've images of that 'cane that hit in the 50's, that thing was massive, I think the eye was the size of Utah.

What's sort of scary is, I rememeber the last time they used this set of names for Hurricanes, but didnt get too far down the list.

My prediction? (sick, I know) They get down to Sandy.

Hurricane Chris. That doesn't seem to fit. That seems like a nickname you would have for your bud Chris. Come on in hurricane.
