    Help with teeth...

OK ive never been one to have any sorts of problem with my teeth. Yea I have cavities here and there, but that was about it. I brushed my teeth often although id go short periods of time not doing. Now in the past 2 weeks ive been noticing a yellowish build up inbetween my teeth and its freaking me out because it makes me so self conscious. I tried brushing them twice as much and twice as hard, tried flossing, and it always comes back right away. Now Im sure the answer will be go to dentist, but right now im not covered because im not under my parents plan because I took the semester of college off. My current job offers it, but im waiting out the period until it goes through which is another month or so. I have crest white strips at home, but I stopped using them after two days because they hurt my teeth (must be really sensitive) so I mean if I couldback with them and stick out the pain for 2 weeks or whatever will that help? Is there any "at home" things I can do or try? Anything I should buy at the store to help?

Keep flossing once a day....don't over-react or anything. I'm pretty sure it's nothing serious or your gums would be bleeding/turning a dark red or maybe even black.

Another reminder for kids to stay in school.

        Ok, but back on topic:

First off, about the Crest White Strips. They do work, but don't rush into them. You are about average with your oral care, which isn't a big deal, but don't wear them twice a day like it tells you if it really hurts. Wear them once a day, or every other day, otherwise your teeth will be extrememly sensitive, especially to cold liquids.

Second, just take better care of your teeth. Brush, flosh, twice, daily. Thats about it. You could also invest in some Listerine or something. Doesn't sound like a big deal, just brush/floss more than you have been.

It's tarter. Some people are more proan to it than others regardless of how well you take care of your teeth. On the plus side, it comes right off at a cleaning. Make sure you hit your yearly check ups and as many cleanings per year as your insurance will cover (most give you 1 or 2).

In closing...in famous words of the late great Mitch Hedberg...

"I bought some tarter control toothpaste... I still have tarter...but that **** is under control. If it's starts getting out of line I'm like you know the deal... ****in' fall in... crazy *** tarter."

            RIP

"I got some tartar-control toothpaste. I still got tartar, but that ****'s under control. If the tartar gets outta line, I'm like, "Come on, man, you know the deal. Fall in! You crazy-*** tartar..." I got so much tartar, I don't have to dip my fish sticks in ****! ... That's actually kinda gross. After I tell that joke, I always clarify that I'm just joking. I don't know how much tartar I actually have. I assume it's the average amount. If we all did a tartar test right now, my name would be right in the ****in' middle."

Listerine also will help cut tartar buildup because it kills the germs that cause tartar. Sorry if that sounds like an ad, but it's true!

                Take care,

That's what came to mind right away. I brushed and flossed every single day but I still got a build up of yellow around my teeth. The reason was that I didn't keep up with the 6 month/1 year checkup routine. I'd go 2 years or so without going.

My first trip back for a cleaning eliminated the tarter. From then on in, I go in for a cleaning EVERY 6 months. I felt the same as you did MagicBucsWsoxFan, you feel self conscious and it's embarrassing.
