14 year old still using night light

I'm very curoius about this. I share a house with some friends and their 14 year old son. This kid still uses a night light. I'm just wondering is this normal, cause I last used a night light when I was about 6.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

    Who cares?

Let him do what he feels comfortable with. You're not the kid's dad, right?

I'm just asking a question, and HIS DAD asked me about this cause he's a little worried that a kid who's going to be in high school next year is still using a night light. He wants to know if it's normal. That is why I asked. I just wanted a genral opinion from some people here.

To be honest, I am going to say it's no big deal, but that is because I need a light on (hallway or nightlight either way) when I go to bed, and I am 26. It's not a fear thing anymore, but it is something I got comfortable with when I was younger, and now I can't go to sleep without it.

I don't think it would affect his social life (he's a little old for sleepovers at 14 anyway) like something such as wetting the bed would, so I would think it is no big deal.

its fine. I sleep with the tv on so that could be considered a night light.

I was thinking the same thing, High school stage Was when I chilled the most and People stay over All the time.

The light thing tho Im not sure if i'd consider that a big deal..I know my sister is 10 and she still uses one and I used one till i was prob 12 or 13.

I just switched to leaving my TV on and turning the Sleep timer on and that really puts me to sleep, So i kinda would consider that a Night Light.

the question is, does he HAVE to have it or just has it? Say he goes over to a friends house and stays, does he freak otu if he doesnt have a night light or just simply deals with it. If he deals with it, no big deal... if he freaks out, then its probably something that needs to be addressed.

Re: 14 year old still using night light

I still use one, but it's not because of fear or anything. I just like to know how to get into my bed at night when I turn off the light.

And I'm also a couch potato. So, if I ever sleep on the couch at night, I like to put the T.V. on Sleep mode or whatever. I like to fall asleep with sound or light. Don't know why. Again, it's not fear... it's just comfortable.

                  And I'm 17.

id sayif that has a pretty strong hold on your life. I'd say its a big deal.

what if your at a friends house or at some hotel and cant control the environment... youll basically screwed.

control your life, dont let the little things control you. get the kid help and/or get him out of his comfort zone. if he doesnt, and he is forced to 'change' he will either crack, or not take it very well.

Bah, it's not big of a deal. I had a nightlight on til I was 15 and I don't need it anymore tho sometimes I sleep with a lamp on but that's not very often.

Personally I want it to be pitch black when I go to sleep. I even got curtains that were thick enough so that the street lights and what not didnt get in.

As far as the kid goes, I dont think its a big deal. Probably not normal, but not a big deal.

As long as he doesn't suck his thumb, sleep with a blankie, or have a pacifer in his mouth.....nah it's not that big of a deal.

I always have to have a light on, usually the closet, and im 29. I just got used to it for so long now, and if something happens to my son or something, i like to be able to see to get moving!
