    Any P.R. degree grads?

Anyone one? I'm looking into it, and what to see what you have done with it.

I'm a journalism grad who worked in daily papers for five years and have worked in major motorsports PR for the last 12 years.

What do you need to know, man?

I'm a PR major at the University of West Florida...

I enjoy it somewhat. Although I'm probably better suited for reporting, which is the direction I'll be heading once I graduate.

PR, in my opinion, is far more business-oriented. Personally, I've had more fun with reporting.

Accurate assessment. When I jumped from journalism to PR, I went from kicking azz to kissing azz.

No regrets, though, as PR pays better and allows you more of a normal life. I worked countless nights, weekends and holidays as a journalist. That career becomes your life, not a job, and I didn't like that. I wanted to spend more time with my wife and friends, and I can't imagine working newspaper hours now that I have kids. I never would get a chance to see them grow up.

          Take care,

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I was thinking about majoring in PR but our department head flat out told our intro class that there was no money for the average PR career.

That was all I needed to hear.

No money compared to what? Medicine, law, finance? That's true.

But compared to journalism, there's a lot more money in PR. It's one of the reasons why I left journalism for PR.

I have a four-bedroom house on an acre of land, in-ground pool, two cars, wife stays home to care for three kids, go away on vacation every year, all self-earned, so PR can't be that bad.

No. And that's "SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY! CATCH THE NITRO-BURNING FUNNY CARS! WE'LL SELL YOU THE WHOLE SEAT, BUT YOU'LL ONLY NEED THE EDGE!!!!!"

Funny thing is, though, I used to work in NHRA drag racing.

I'm sure in any field there's an opportunity to make a good deal of money but our prof. was just telling us the averages for PR people. You're probably ahead of the curve.

Well, I'm sitting in my PR class right now, and we are discussing salary.

                            Avg starting: $28,000
                            National avg: $63,000

Ceilling is very high though....well, for men.
