I'm a PR major at the University of West Florida...
I enjoy it somewhat. Although I'm probably better suited for reporting, which is the direction I'll be heading once I graduate.
PR, in my opinion, is far more business-oriented. Personally, I've had more fun with reporting.Comment

Accurate assessment. When I jumped from journalism to PR, I went from kicking azz to kissing azz.Originally posted by athletics_fanPR, in my opinion, is far more business-oriented. Personally, I've had more fun with reporting.
No regrets, though, as PR pays better and allows you more of a normal life. I worked countless nights, weekends and holidays as a journalist. That career becomes your life, not a job, and I didn't like that. I wanted to spend more time with my wife and friends, and I can't imagine working newspaper hours now that I have kids. I never would get a chance to see them grow up.
Take care,

You aren't funny.Originally posted by sportsdudeunless you're a hot chick or not white, stay away. unless you know people in the biz. otherwise, I hope you enjoy ramen noodles.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Any P.R. degree grads?
I was thinking about majoring in PR but our department head flat out told our intro class that there was no money for the average PR career.

No money compared to what? Medicine, law, finance? That's true.Originally posted by ehhI was thinking about majoring in PR but our department head flat out told our intro class that there was no money for the average PR career.

But compared to journalism, there's a lot more money in PR. It's one of the reasons why I left journalism for PR.
I have a four-bedroom house on an acre of land, in-ground pool, two cars, wife stays home to care for three kids, go away on vacation every year, all self-earned, so PR can't be that bad.
Take care,

I'm sure in any field there's an opportunity to make a good deal of money but our prof. was just telling us the averages for PR people. You're probably ahead of the curve."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
