Re: 4 weeks to tone up, looking for help

Ok mind if i tell you my little story...

Im currently 17 years old, about 5'9, and around 205 pounds. Im a pretty big kid but im not huge by any means. Im very wide and will sometime or another put up a picture.
I used to live an breathe sports till i was about 12 years old until i started living off of fast food. I then gained a lot of weight during middle school and am now stuck in high school being somewhat of a fatty. I still play sports almost everyday but im wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to lose the weight ive accumulated.

Here's what i normally do during the day:
Wake up around 6:00 am and stop at Chick Fil-A and get a Bacon and Cheese Sandwich, Hashbrowns, and Sweet Tea(its a combo)
7:30 school starts and i have a breakfast break at around 9:00 but i dont eat anything during it.
11:55 lunch starts and i always get a diet coke, usually a salad but i use 2 dressings, and 2 cookies(its a pack)
4:00 i get home and will usually pour myself some sweet tea(lipton) that my mom makes. I will also normally grab some little snack
6:00-8:00 somewhere in that time frame i eat dinner and about 3 days out fo the week its fast food.
9:00 get a drink to take to bed either water, or tea. Then i pass out

Now that ive typed out my daily routine i see that i eat way too much and especially eat alot of bad stuff.

Im really tired of being chubby and wish i could get help!! I play tons of sports and am suprisingly very athletic. I play soccer and basketball.

Is there anyone who can suggest some things that will help me lose this extra flab!!

Thanks alot for your guys time and sorry for hijacking the thread..

Yeah, stop eating fast food. Way too many calories.

Your probably taking in way more calories than you're burning off.

I don't know much about sweat tea, but my guess is that's also bad for you (in terms of calories).

Sounds like you need to change your diet and do more cardio type workouts.

Re: 4 weeks to tone up, looking for help

Alright well im not sure if I mentioned this or not, but Im brand new to weight lifting.

Anyway after reading these boards earlier and searching internet websites a little bit I went tonight and bought 2, 25lbs weights. Along with Whey, low fat milk, reduced fat peanutt butter, low fat yogurt, and some beef jerky.

Ive never made or had a protein shake before nor have I had any schedules or pre planned work outs (id just lift weights whenever i felt like it on occations) so im looking for some type of schedule for when is the best time to have protein shakes (before or after work out?) before bed? when i wake up? as a drink along with my lunch? Im clueless so any help will be appriciated.

Also ofcourse with all this protein im going to be taking in I cant let it turn into fat so I have to work it off...just about how much do I have to do to ensure im working out enough to actually be making a difference since most of my workouts will be squeezed in late at night with a few minutes to spare before bed and a few minutes to spare in the morning before work.

and lastly a friend said its good to drink a protein shake before bed? is this true, i figured if you drink a shake then go to bed it would just turn into fat since your not really moving or exersizing anything off by sleeping.

          alright thanks in advance.

Stop eating at chick fil-a (or any other fast food place), and stop drinking calories. That means no pop, no gatorade, no tea. Water only. Milk would be my one exception because it provides such a broad spectrum of health benefits... but you should still be relying on water aside from that.
7:30 school starts and i have a breakfast break at around 9:00 but i dont eat anything during it.
11:55 lunch starts and i always get a diet coke, usually a salad but i use 2 dressings, and 2 cookies(its a pack)
If you're going to use two dressing packets, you might as well eat McDonalds. Look on the back of those. One packet probably has 40%+ of your daily fat requirement and nearly 200 calories (or more). I don't really need to explain the cookies, either. That's probably 300+ calories in two small cookies that aren't worth it.
Either eat salads with a healthy dressing (we're talking not only low fat but low calorie) or pack your lunch with healthy items.. fresh fruit, turkey sandwich (watch the cheese and mayo..), fresh veggies, and of course, water.
I would also recommend eating something small and healthy during your breakfast break. Fruit is always a safe option. Stay away from pop tarts and other stuff like that - it's no good. You should continue to eat 5-6 times a day, but you should eat right.
4:00 i get home and will usually pour myself some sweet tea(lipton) that my mom makes. I will also normally grab some little snack
            H2O.
6:00-8:00 somewhere in that time frame i eat dinner and about 3 days out fo the week its fast food.
Got to be honest with you here. Fast food is the absolute worst thing you can ever possibly eat. One fast food meal is liable to carry a whole day's worth of calories. There are burgers at a lot of places that push 1,500 calories (that's about 2/3 of what you want to eat in a day). No one ever loses any weight by eating fast food. I would suggest cutting it out altogether, but at the very very most, eat it once every two weeks.
9:00 get a drink to take to bed either water, or tea. Then i pass out
            H2O.
Im really tired of being chubby and wish i could get help!! I play tons of sports and am suprisingly very athletic. I play soccer and basketball.
You can run 10 miles a day and it won't matter if you don't eat right. Being active is very important but it's a two way street. Right now, it's just your eating habits holding you back. If you swing your eating habits in the right direction, it sounds like you're already halfway there - so that is good. You'll find yourself with a lot more energy and feeling considerably healthier after just a few weeks of eating right.. and the pounds will go with it, I gaurantee you that..

            Good luck!

Re: 4 weeks to tone up, looking for help

Thank you so much for your help and i am going to try and start my diet tomorrow!

Im going to make a daily chart and write down what i eat so i can see how good/bad im doing.. I will also only drink water from now on because you said that is important. I will also cut out the chick fil-a in the morning and try to stop eating fast food. I was wondering though if restaurants are ok like...

Chili's, Panera, and at Subway can i get a full sub?

Thanks again for all your help and ill try to update it with my progress, tomorrow i will officially weigh myself, and then record what i weigh every week.

              Thanks!!

i just wanted to say, if you eat the right things, either solo or as a combo, youll need to eat less to feel full. not only full but youll have more energy.

Ive been cutting back recently, eatting less, but eatting right, and im exercising more because im not tired... I would usually eat because I was tired and thought that I would get a boost from eatting. Well, the boost never came and I continued to eat way too much. I'm only on day two of this little trial experiment, but I feel great. I can do more and eat less, with no ill effects. Hell, even sleeping is hard because I dont feel exhausted.

ive heard this from somewhere, food is for fuel. not for pleasure. thats pretty damn accurate so far.

                  go figure

The best thing to lose weight is to eat. What I mean by that is by eating every two hours (not pigging out but eating smaller substantial meals) you will lose fat and gain strength.

This is one thing that so many people never understand but once you get going with it you'll noticed results.

Also for people trying to trim down...You may not see results for as long as 6 weeks. So many people get discouraged they aren't "shredding down" after 2 or 3 weeks and give up. It may take months or years to get to your desired condition it is best knowing that going in so as to not give yourself ridiculous expectations.

im hearing HIIT is great great cardio for trimming fat and keeping muscle

                      its high intensity interval training

basically.... run for 2 minutes walk for 1, run for 2 minutes, walk for 1. But the better you get the more you can do...

ie: run for 2 min, jog for 1 min, run for 2 job for 1 min.

Make sure to eat breakfast every morning, eggs they burn calories during the day faster and have a small glass of water, always have water, hot dogs and salads are good, dressings are bad, if you are going to work out hard, have low sodium intake because it prevents you from sweating.....i could go on and on but this is the basics......and if your wondering how a 15 year old knows all this im in wrestling cut atleast 10 pounds each year.

a rowing machine is a great workout machine. you use basically your entire body and the workout only takes 20-25 minutes.
                              Rowing machines are great.

My workout of choice is swimming. It's very low-impact and works your entire body very quickly, including subtle things like lung capacity. My knees (I'm 35) are chalk and I've had my shoulder completely rebuilt, so high-impact workouts and even light weight training aren't really best for me. Rotate between different types of strokes each half-lap (length of the pool) to work different muscles, and go at your own pace for at least 30 minutes, and you'll be on your way.

Of course, swimming won't get you "cut" like weights will, but if you're just trying to get "in shape" and stay there, it does the trick pretty well. I feel strong and have a lot of energy. Plus, I find it very relaxing - kind of a workout and meditation in one.
