The Turkish government has denied that a Genocide even took place, which is pretty disheartening. Although, a lot of other countries have recognized it (not that it matters, the fact is that it occured). A lot of Armenians are hell-bent on recognition from America and other countries who havent yet, but really, I don't care. What good will recognizing it do? Too many extremists on the Armenian side and I don't subscribe to that whole ideology, but I'd just like to post about the Genocide for you guys to learn about something that isnt given too much attention but is huge.

Remember the Armenian Genocide...
April 24th is the memorial day for the Armenian Genocide. In 1915, there was a Genocide headed up by the Turkish government to purge the Armenian people. Around 1.5 million Armenians died during this Genocide, and not a lot of publicity is given to it compared to some of the other Genocides that have occured in history. Forced from homes and the country, the Armenian people were either killed or had to move to various places, now known as the Armenian diaspora. Places such as Russia, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Iran, France, and other areas.

Re: Remember the Armenian Genocide...
As a fellow Armenian i cosign on everything you said. Today is a very special day for all Armenians. The entire situation is very very discouraging as far as politics and human rights go but this isn't the time or place. Instead i just ask for everyone who isn't aware about the Armenian Genocide to do a little research into one of the lesser known crimes against humanity.
As far as recognition it'll never happen which will lead to little closer on the situation. Any acknowlegement (sp?) on turkey's part would result in massive penalties like reparations and such so while it is a cause that i know i might never win as an Armenian i feel it is important to remember it for what it was a true tragedy.Last edited by ASB37; 04-24-2006, 10:57 PM.Go Yankees
