    Playing Baseball Again

I have decided to start playing baseball again, im 16 right now and havent played since i was 12.

I was just curious if any of you have left a sport for that long and still been pretty good when you came back..

Im only worried about lead offs, i never used to do that..Batting i should be fine, considering 18 year olds cant pitch.

    Thanks

    I'd re-think that.

There are two kids on my schools HS team who can hit 90, throw 12-6 curves, bust out a good slider and change-up when they need too.

If you go in thinking "Ah, they're just 18, they can't pitch" you're going to look like a fool when they blow fastballs by you.

    Just my opinion.

I took a long break from baseball and came back when I was 16 too, I think. Fielding was fine, throwing was good, batting took half a season to get used to again.

Personally, I'd worry most about batting. A lot changes between 12 and 16 year olds. Pitches come in faster, more movement, more variety in pitches etc...

Leading off is nothing special. Just don't cross your feet so you don't trip!

I had a real long layoff in baseball. Stopped playing after my Freshman year of college, and picked it back up in an adult league in San Diego when I was 28.

The first year was rough. Took me a little bit to pick the ball up out of the pitchers hand, took a little getting used to in throwing a hardball, and playing the field. By the end of the first season I was getting back in to it pretty well. The next year, though was when I really started to get in to the groove and feel comfortable playing.

There are a few wood bat leagues here.

Yeah...thought you were saying that 18 year olders can't pitch...was just shocked 'cause the ones on my team are freaking amazing.

But that is odd....is it just a summer league or something?

I'm only 24, but I consider picking it up every Memorial Day after my highschool alumni game. It's tough playing softball now, just throws you off...but catching my whole life till recently there's just no substitute to baseball. I'd love to get my arm healthy so I could really entertain the idea...

I thought about playing baseball for a rec league only i havent done anything baseball related in some years.. i go ot the batting cages every once in awhile but other then that ntohing...

i know after a few games/or a full season id be back to normal but i thought all the leagues are like semi-pro.
