    Got surgery today

Got surgery today for my torn acl that I posted about last month. Wasn't that bad, the doctor said everything went perfectly. I didn't get sick from the anethesia or anything. It's pretty weird. Before they gave me they put me to sleep they gave me something to relax me. I remember that, and then laying there for about 10 seconds, and then I woke up in the recovery room. I don't even remember being wheeled into the operating room, or even seeing the doctor.

I'm not really in any pain now, maybe a little bit of soreness. But they gave me a block or something that's supposed to numb the leg for like 12 hours, so we'll see how long that lasts. Getting around the house is more challenging than I thought because they put me in a brace that's locked at full enxtension, which I didn't realize they were going to do.

Overall things are going pretty well though.

    Re: Got surgery today

Glad to hear the surgery went well. I was in a full-leg brace for a while after ripping up my knee during HS. The biggest problem, aside from getting around normally with it on, is building up the strength and muscle mass in your leg once the brace is off. It's amazing how quickly your muscles atrophy when you don't use them.

You should start a Yankees franchise on whatever MLB video game you have, and see what takes longer: Finishing one season, or rehabbing the knee.

They didn't give you the device to help bend the knee? Oh well, I don't know how PT is going to be for you. I had the bend knee device and PT was fairly easy. Hopefully you have a speedy recovery bro.

Steve, no they didn't, but they said I'd be bending the knee in physical therapy on wednesday so maybe they'll give me it then.

Can you bend it at all right now or is it locked completely? Also, was this patella or hamstring graft?

                    Re: Got surgery today

Well, I guess I can't talk, but I had surgery on my nose and it laid me up for a week. The worst part was having to sleep propped up on the couch.

I got home and I was completely exhausted.

                    Glad you're doing well, Jets.

It's locked completely. They did the patella graft. He said sometimes people my age have problems with there hamstring after doing the hamstring graft.

Cool, same as me. It'll be stronger than your other knee after PT and 9 to 12 months.
