If you didn't already know, the northeastern part of the US, mainly Pennsylvania, is going through record flooding. Being that Bloomsburg is situated right on the Susquehanna River, I am directly affected. Right now, it's ugly. We lost power for 3 hours yesterday, but it's back on for us now. Most of town, myself included, is without running water. About 200,000 people from the Wilkes-Barre area (about 30 minutes north) have been evacuated. There was a helicopter that flew in here today to rescue some people. I haven't seen, but apparently our high school is surrounded by water and the first floor has water in it. My one friend has water completely filling his basement, and another has his house up on a hill completely surrounded by water.
It's a mess really. After Hurricane Ivan it got pretty bad, but this is a lot worse. The good news is that the water has apparently crested already, about 8 feet lower than expected. Our sewage plant is also submerged in water, so the whole situation is going to be (literally) nasty. I don't know how, but I've never thought about how much of a part running water plays in your everyday life. Hopefully the rain dies down and this can clear up as soon as possible.
