    Stock Market

This to all the financial playas here.

If I were to get into the stock scene, should I go to something like eTrade or TD Ameritech online, or should I look up a stock broker locally and trade stocks through him?

If you say I should go online, which one should I go online?

    Re: Stock Market

To be honest, unless you know an awful lot about the companies you're investing in (ie: products, trends, investors etc...) I'd stay away from the market and invest into Money Markets or CD's.

There are guys on here that deal in the stock market a lot so I'll let them take over. However, if you're interested in money markets or other less volatile options that allow your money to grow, I have a few that I'm very happy with.

I actually am decent at picking cheap stocks... I made a bit of dough from Atari a couple of years ago, and I have some stocks I'm going to keep my eyes on, that are cheap and seem like they should be higher.

Well you go Mr. EF Hutton(at least the over 30 crowd should know what I am talking about)

Do your research and find out what types of fees are involved then decide from there. I am actually thinking of getting some "sleeper" stock as well as I think a huge 4th qtr is in order.

Well, I was hoping I could have someone suggest a service to me... I did the other trade through my father and I'm branching out on my own for this one. I guess I'll go take a look at the fees later.

I use e*trade, its 6.95 a trade for me cause I make 100+ trades a month. And I pretty sure anything over 30 gets $9 trades. Etrade also has free lvl 2. Which will cost you elsewhere.

If you trade with a broker its $40-50 dollars a trade, a complete ripoff.

Also if you plan on having over 25k in your e*trade has the highest money market % for an online broker.

You can deposit and withdraw money instantly with a debit or checking account card.

Thanks so much, USF... I don't plan on having that much money in the account, more like something like 250 dollars... I am just trying to make some cash.

              What is lvl 2?

I believe Vanguard Prime Money Market is higher at 4.96%. This is what I have some of my money in and I really like the "free money" I've been getting every month.

I think the E*Trade one I saw was at 4.75%.

Level 2 is reatime bid/ask lineup's on stocks. Bids are buyers and Asks are sellers. Brokers make their money by matching the buy and sell orders.
