Re: Heartburn
I have GERD/acid reflux so bad that the acid was entering my bronchial tubes last winter and creating the false impression of a heart attack. The acid was burning my lungs.
I'm on daily prescription medication, Protonix, to control the situation. The stuff works great. I've also modified my diet, cutting back on coffee, tomato sauce and citrus beverages, and drinking more water.
So yes, Diesel, I felt your pain. And then some!
Take care,

Re: Heartburn
Tagament works very well over the counter for basic heartburn. If this only happens infrequently, then you don't have GERD or acid reflux and don't need Prilosec OTC. GERD/acid reflux is a constant pain, feeling like a blowtorch is hitting your stomach and chest.Originally posted by dieselboyI had mexican food late last night and I am dying right now.
I can't sleep.
An over-the-counter heartburn pill like Tagament should work just fine for you.
Hope you're feeling better.
Take care,

Re: Heartburn
I had something like this back in the fall. I couldn't eat or drink anything but water for about 4 days and even for a few days after that all I could eat was soup. It was easily the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. I had this unbearable pain in my upper back and my chest. Just thinking about it makes me uncomfortable.Twitter

Re: Heartburn
I feel ya brother (must be something all us old guys go through). I actually went to the emergency room a few years ago, and I NEVER go there. I was freaking out thought it was over for me. My wife freaked too cuz she can't get me to go see a doctor ever let alone the ER.Originally posted by pk500I have GERD/acid reflux so bad that the acid was entering my bronchial tubes last winter and creating the false impression of a heart attack. Nexium did the trick. Like an idiot I feel better, then start drinking coffee which kills me the worst. Tomato sauce is bad too as well as some chocolate. Yet I can eat spicy mexican food and be fine. I've finally committed to not drinking coffee though as it really messes me up now. Which sucks cuz I love coffee.
My doctor also told me to chill out cuz I'm a stress monkey, have high blood pressure too. Just need to BREATHE....PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: Heartburn
Protonix is potent stuff. I can eat anything that used to trigger GERD/acid reflux -- coffee, tomato sauce, Mexican, beer -- and have ZERO problems. I needed Protonix because the GERD/acid reflux not only was getting into my bronchial tubes, but I also was having some erosion in my esophagus.
Even though I'm on the one-a-day wonder pill, I still cut back on the trigger foods. I'd like to wean myself from the pills, if possible, even though they have zero side effects and have improved my quality of life immensely. I'm just not a big pill-popper. Never have been.
Take care,

Re: Heartburn
Thanks for your orginal post PK. I'm going to the doc tomorrow and asking her about this since I have largely the same symptoms that you had. I hadn't even thought of that and my doctor diagnosed it as tachnocardia and panic attacks. She checked my ticker out and it was fine, but I don't think she even thought of this.Comment
