Word of advice to the class of 2006....

Bust your *** that first semester. Its not HS anymore. College is easy if you try. A lot of people have really poor freshman years and end up dropping out. I was close.

2.1, 2.7, 3.1, 3.8 = My GPAs the first two years of college.

I'll actually be going there this spring... but if things go well at Siena for this Fall Semester (good grades), I will likely transfer to University of Texas-Austin... (the better one!).

first time away from home, these guys aren't going to be busting their asses the first semester. I called my first YEAR of college my "redshirt year" because I didn't do ish! Had a 2.0 after my first semester. That was pretty good considering my roommate and other guys I was hanging with got 1.7s.

I actually thought the 1st semester was the easiest. I think it had to do with the classes I was assigned to. I only had to take 1 programming class that semester and it was Cobol which is pretty easy. The rest were intro to business, rise of western civilization, some english class and a religion class.

Later on when I was taking 2-3 coding classes per semester, that really sucked. Only positive was I knew how to manage my time better so I still had a lot of party time despite a larger workload.

In any case, I say it every year, but enjoy college. IMO it was some of the best times of my life.

I did Fortran my second semester before I transferred out of the engineering school. It was really easy but what a stupid language to learn.

I don't know many people who did well first semester either. I got a 1.8 and was put on academic probation for the rest of the year, so I had to get my GPA up. I'm doing fine now, but those first few months in the dorms it can be hard to get any work done.
