    Re: ugh first ticket

It's folks like you guys that clog up the courts.

If you're clearly in the wrong, and you know it, pay the fine and take the point deduction.

So many people here were challenging the tickets, knowing the cops couldn't always show up in person, the rules were changed. Now cops can just phone in.

They should put in a law where if you fight your ticket in court and lose, the fine should be doubled and the point deduction should be doubled. That would stop a lot of people from fighting the speeding/parking tickets in court.

I've been driving for almost a decade and I've never recieved a speeding ticket.

Edit: Even though I would prefer people not to clog up the court system, I do understand why people fight their tickets.

I don't think he can plead not guilty when he actually was driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

Depends on where you're from. Where I have to go to court is only for traffic tickets. No clogging of any system as they don't handle anything else there.

I'm not sure how it is in other areas or if it's any different, but the point system in PA is 6 points and you lose your license. A ticket going 20 MPH over the speed limit is 4 points. 1 more ticket and the license is lost. 20 MPH over the speed limit is the norm for someoneone driving the interstated for 50-60 miles per day.

I'll still challenge every ticket I get (if I get anymore...it's been 2-3 years now without one). The money's no issue, it's the points that'll kill ya.

yea i know i was guilty, cause i was driving on a one way street, but i was only on there for like 3 seconds till cops came. they really wanted to bag somebody. but yea, is it even worth fighting for then? the last poster made a good point. i was clearly wrong.

the $85 ticket really sucks cause im unemployed right now (just graduated) and still iffy if insurance will go up (NJ insurance)

i also got 2 letters in the mail from 2 law offices offering legal advice? is this normal? seems like they're making it a very big deal

Go to court admit it was a mistake, tell them your financial situation and see what happens. At home here you can pay for a ticket by doing community service work, not sure if that is an option for you.

Yeah I agree, it is the points on your record that hurts.

how badly can 2 pts hurt my record? my mom had 14 pts like a couple of years ago. that was insane. i didnt even tell my parents yet cause i dunno how they'd react. maybe i should do it soon before i get anything from the insurance company about it.

Depends on the point system used in your state. In PA 6 points means you lose your license or have to take another driver's ed class. 20 MPH over the speed limit is 4 points and a moving violation like rolling through a stop sign is 2 points. So 2 tickets could revoke a license.

Chances are your mom as been driving awhile now, so that could be why she doesn't get effected by it! But being a young driver it will probably make you insurance bill go up.

I've never gotten a ticket before but I got a warning for cutting through a parking lot in order to avoid a red light. I was trying to not be late for school. Didn't work out so well.

I got my first ticket in november for driving 88 in a 65 down I-45 from Houston day. I just had to do defensive driving class online.

I buy and drive crappy economicly driven cars for a reason... little chance of speeding. so far its worked wonders.. now on the other hand, if i had any car over 200hp, i'd be speeding all day.

                            nice little deterant ive created

Cops wont dare to stop a geo metro for speeding.

You make a very valid point. Chances of a cop pulling over a Geo Metro as compared to a sportier car are less likely.

this is what my friend said to me:

You have to get a lawyer to prove it was an honest mistake. If you don't have a lawyer, you will loose the court case and you will have to pay court fees.

Don't go to court and plea not guilty without a lawyer!

                                whaaaaaaaaat??
