Have a question for you guys

I am taking an online math/computer class. It is a computer class but really a math class. I had to turn in some problems that were assigned. As you guys know the odd numbered answers are in the back of the book. I will admit I did not know how to figure out the answers. I used the answers in the back of the book. Are teacher told us he doesn't care if we just put the answers we just can't get partial credit for showing the work if the answer happens to be wrong. He also never told us that if we used the answers from the book for the odd answers we would not get credit for those problems which is what happened to me.

I sent the teacher an email explaining that if this was a real world situation you use all resources available to you to solve a problem. Our text book is a resource and that is what I used. The answers are right so I should get the credit regardless of how I got the answers. It is not any different then if I gave the problems to someone else and they figured them out.

I know this teeters the line of ethics but I really do not think I did anything wrong here. I think the teacher should have given us even numbered questions and if he gave odd and did not want us to use the answers in the back of the book he should have told us. Do you think I am right?

IMO if you don't know how to figure out the math problems you need ask for help. If you just plug in the anwsers from the back of the book your not gonna get anything out of the class. Meaning your not gonna learn anything. I was always terrible with math, but I always asked for help when I needed it. Because on test day, there was no looking up the anwsers. It was up to you and you alone to figure it out. Just my two cents.

technically you may not have done anything wrong, but your "using all resourses" statement is crap...the purpose of the class is for you to actually learn the material and how to think, not just enter the right answers on the computer. If you don't want to learn, don't take the damn class IMO

Your right I didn't. My teacher felt the same way as you. The other weeks homework I was able to figure out. This past week's was a pain. My teacher is actually going to give us (I was not the only one who did this) to make up the points. I am supposed to call him (this is an online class) on Wednesday and he is going to help me to try and understand the material. Usually I do not do to bad in math but this class is giving me fits. Luckily I only have 4 more weeks to go.

Good. You made the right choice.
