Not to veer away from Pat's cool birthday celebration, but a drinking age of 21 is beyond ludicrous. It should be 18.

You're trying to tell me that a 19-year-old who just returned from a tour of duty in Iraq can't be welcomed home by his buddies with a beer at the corner bar?

Old enough to risk his neck for the country, but not old enough to tip a beer. What a f*cking joke.

    Take care,

Don't worry about veering. I couldn't agree more.

I threw up for over an hour when I turned 21. My roomate was asleep (we came in just before 3AM), and I came in and began puking. He put his headphones on when I woke him up and started listening to a Guster CD.. finished it, and I was still going strong.

        NICE.

While your point is well made and taken, I've had countless buddies in the military and not one at any age was ever refused alcohol regardless of age. It's really an "unwritten law", at least when and where I was growing up. Old enough to serve, old enough to be served.

Hell... 95% of the drinking I did in my life I did before 21. Maybe it was me, but 21 was very anti-climactic for me.

            P.S. Diesel... Happy Birthday.

Well lets look at this logically for a minute, do we really want as a matter of public policy to allow High School seniors (and some juniors) to be allowed to purchase alcohol? I know I don't. All this serves to do is enable younger HS students to have more access to alcohol, which isn't a great social policy to set.

If you want to serve your country, great, then you can be served. As Clay said, it's basically an unwritten law, but I'd be all for codifying it myself. If you don't want to serve, you wait until 21. Does it suck, not really, we all know you can easily enough find alcohol, you just need to be somewhat smart and not get caught.

I would love to hear some other argument than I am 18 and it is my right. Please not 'If I can vote I can drink either', given the valid policy concerns about not allowing HS students to readily be able to get alcohol.

You just might be the most ignorant person on OS. The whole "voting" deal you refer to? Yeah, that's kind of a big deal. Maybe, when you are you old enough to learn about rights and guaranteed freedoms in our constitution, you won't take them for granted as much.

Oh I'd be willing to wager I understand this stuff better than 99% of the people on OS actually.

Haha I think i did the 21 thing way too many times in college. I could drink a whole bottle of wahtever it was in a given night. I'm sure that adds up to about 21 shots or so. Not sure. Wasn't a smart thing to do on my part, it just took a lot for me to get drunk. I don't reccomend this kind of activity at home, haha.

Yeah, I was about to take 21 shots, but now there's that disclaimer, so I don't think I'm going to do it anymore.
