Has anybody here taken the GMAT?
I'm probably going to be taking it within the next year for a possible return to school for a MBA and just curious as to what to expect. I'll probably be picking up a book or two to help out the studying, and possibly taking a class.PS4: aBayBates

Re: Has anybody here taken the GMAT?
i'm taking it soon. I've been putting it off but since my company pays for a master's degree, i'm going to take the test and go back to school. I bought a GMAT prep guide a couple years ago but didn't really do anything with it...lol"Never trust a big butt and a smile."-Ricky Bell

Re: Has anybody here taken the GMAT?
I took it and just recently finished my MBA. I took it in 1999 though, so I'm sure it has changed. I started my MBA right around the time when my GMAT scores were set to expire. I'm Lazy!
I used the Princeton Review book (Link) to study for it. I found this book to be helpful because it talked about how the questions are set up to trick you into chosing the wrong answer. But the biggest thing that helped me was taking the practice tests first. This was right around the time where they were going all computerized (boy do I feel old!). My score improved dramatically from the first practice test I took to when I took it for real. I think I did 3 practice tests before the real test.
I didn't take a prep class, but only because I didn't feel it was worth it. I was able to do things on my own. Just a personal preference. I've known people who have taked a prep class and said it was helpful, it just wasn't for me.
I also took the GMAT only 6 months after I finished my undergrad, so I was still somewhat in school mode.
Hope that helps!Last edited by LetsGoBucs; 09-14-2006, 07:20 AM.MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies

Re: Has anybody here taken the GMAT?
I didn't take a prep class either and I took it about 6 months after my undergrad as well. I didn't study for it at all, just showed up and passed. I personally didn't think it was that tough, but I didn't ace it or anything. If you didn't have any problems with the SATs or ACTs, you probably aren't going to have a problem with this, but that's just my opinion. I was afraid that it was going to have all kinds of business stuff on it because I wasn't a business major and the only business type class I ever took at Auburn was one Econ class. But it was alright.I took it and just recently finished my MBA. I took it in 1999 though, so I'm sure it has changed. I started my MBA right around the time when my GMAT scores were set to expire. I didn't go on to get a MBA or anything, I just got a Masters in MIS to give me some kind of management knowledge to go with my Computer Science degree.

I got my MBA from Boston College. I just finished this summer. I got a job as a Software Development Project Manager. I was in software development (and I led projects as well) and wanted to move more into managing projects. The MBA helped in the fact that it opened doors that were closed before.MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
