BATON ROUGE, LA, United States (UPI) -- A man left a knife in his toddler daughter`s head after repeatedly stabbing her and his estranged wife along a highway, Baton Rouge, La., police allege.
The unidentified 2-year-old girl was reported in 'extremely critical' condition after allegedly being stabbed multiple times with a kitchen knife by her 27-year-old father in their family car along an interstate highway in Friday afternoon rush-hour traffic, the Baton Rouge Advocate said.
The girl`s 26-year-old mother was listed in serious condition from stab wounds and from being thrown 40 feet when her husband`s car hit her, police alleged. The woman had gotten out of the car to go to a nearby police patrol car for help, but had run back when she saw the child being stabbed, officers alleged.
The husband allegedly left the wounded 2-year-old on the side of the road, then sped away at speeds reaching 80 mph, the Advocate report said. He was hospitalized with minor injuries after his car crashed and overturned, according to police.
The attack started about 5:15 p.m. when the family was sitting in traffic and the adults began arguing about child support, police said. The family was not immediately identified.
