    Anyone else here own ferrets?

Just wondering after I remembered Bartleby's vet appointment today. Right now we have 7.
    1. Rainy - The sole female and the oldest one. She is tiny though, I don't know if she ever grew.
    2. Loki - He is a classic ferret, and survived one helluva an ordeal that when I have the time I'll post about. Needless to say he is lucky to be alive.
    3. Bartleby aka Barble - He is our strangest, he hates my wife and shakes when she holds him and always reaches for me. No idea why. When he was younger he would try to hide rubbish bags that were ready to go out.
    4. Kal-El - He is Barble's brother/litter mate. He is mildly ******** from being sick as a kit and the pet store nearly letting him die. Needless to say that pet store doesn't sell ferrets any more after our vet called her friend at Marshall's (big breeding farm on the east coast where most ferrets come from)
    5. Kobe8 - Yes he was named after Kobe Bryant, but that was before the rape incident. He is the sweetest thing, and is getting over insulinoma. Hopefully he makes it, he is doing well right now.
    6. Zeek - This ferret is psychotic. He can leap the gate in their room if we don't put the top on and now he can come close without the top on.
    7. Vick - He is Zeek's brother, and like Kobe he is sweet, but like Kal-El he's a little bit stupid as well. His eye sight isn't so hot, so he needs to be hand fed treats or else he makes you feel like you are the worst person alive with a look.
We had 8, but Quincy died in July.

They've always interested me, but honestly, I don't know if I could handle them in my house.

They can be difficult to handle at times, and we are lucky enough to be able to give them their own bedroom in our house. When we had 3 they were allowed to free roam our condo, that wasn't the best idea.

I generally don't like to own pets that are in cages, but having ferrets in more of the open like their own room is a good idea.

Maybe you could post some pictures of your ferrets for us?

Sure, let me find my photobucket account.

Here is Barble in the box and Loki outside.

Here is Kal-El rolling in the sun with our cat Chloey Diane with Loki looking on, I think with Kobe, I can't tell from that angle. Loki has a habit of sneaking into pictures, we have a great one of Rainy with him trying to steal the spotlight as well. Right now Loki looks a lot different, is fur is slowly turning silver and white.

          This was Quincy

I have more in another Photobucket account, if I find it I'll share more.

I always wanted a Ferret but I didn't have the money or time for one. I think that later on in life, I'll eventually get one with a dog also. Ever since I saw that Conan movie with Arnold, I've always wanted one. That's a cool idea to give them their own room, but I don't think I'd ever get down like that. By the way, how well do ferrets keep pest out the house like rats, roaches, ants, and other things like that? That was a big thought in my mind.

What happened to that old pets thread we used to have around here? It was pretty cool seeing everyone's different animals.

                Atlanta Braves
                - Auburn Tigers - Nashville Predators

If we let them they would do an amazing job, but we don't let them. In England they are used for that purpose. Every now and again we live feed them so they can keep their skills up just in case.

We have one who is semi-nippy, but there are two reasons, 1) we didn't get him until he was 6 months old, compared to 8 weeks old, so he went unsocialized for a long time and 2) we think he has poor eye sight. He is 100x better than when we got him. The others only nip when we play and it is rare one bites hard. Their smell isn't bad, we bathe them like once a month. Contrary to popular belief, they smell less when you wash them less, it is something with the oil they produce. Ours are more or less litterbox trained as well, so that keeps the smell down as well. We clean their room nightly. As for noise, when they are happy they 'dook', which is a cherping like noise. When Barble was a kit, he would come up to you, cherp a little, bite you, chirp some more and storm off. It was adorable.
