    Whey Protein

For those of you who lift and use Whey Protein (AA, etc.) how many grams of protein do you try to get per day? I'm wanting to add some more mass, and it's slowly coming along as expected. But I didn't know if too much whey would be hurting my muscle growth, or if I'm not getting enough, etc.

What do you all use, and how many grams of protein per day would you recommend?

    Re: Whey Protein

There is a ratio of proteion to body weight, but I forget what it is.

Ingesting too much protein will be contradictory, as it will ultimately be turned to fat if it isn't "used as intended" by the body.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but I couldn't find what the ratio was. Figured there would be some guys on here that would know. Thanks for the response Jimp... if there's anyone else who has any input, let it be know.

I actually stopped using it. Figure I would just go with regular food and just aminos. Results are actually better. Whey I will use if I can't get food. Otherwise I just let it be.

          Re: Whey Protein

rotein is made of amino acids. Amino acids are the basic building blocks of muscle. Therefore, protein is an essential ingredient for muscle building. You can't build muscle without it! You will want to take in about 1-2 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight throughout the day. So an average person who weighs 150 lbs would want to consume between 150 and 300 grams of protein in a day. Protein shakes and bars are convenient and provide high quality protein.

That's what I just found... apparently, I'm not getting enough, lol.

LBz, are you just eating high protein foods?

There is also a ratio/amount for the amount of protein the body can digest/use in a period of time. Unfortunately, I forget the details, again.

Basically, you would want to space out the ingestion of protein, and not take 300 grams at once. Ideally someone else has the specific details though.

              Re: Whey Protein

I read that the daily value that your body "needs" is to take your body weight, and multiply it by .36, and that's what your body needs. Not much at all. So if you're building muscle, you'd need quite a bit more. Safe to say, I haven't been overdoing it. And I'm extremely active, so no real worries about turning into fat.

The ratio is about 2 grams per pound. So if you are 150 lbs about 300 grams. Just make sure you don't end up ****ting it all out =).

Just hi pro foods. If I can't get to any food I always have some whey on hand. But majority is just food.

This stuff didn't work for me, but of course I didn't lift. That's bulls**t if you don't gain at least some weight by just taking it and doing nothing before or after.

I'm very skeptical about protein mixtures and powder. Tell me how it works for you. I need to get stronger for football, but I don't want to get fat or look like a blimp.

Well it's not really what it's intended for. You could eat chicken all day and not gain a lick unless you take some effort to actually lift.
