One of my favorite plays to run is the good ole hook and ladder, especially if you hit your best receiver on the comeback route, which usually lures in every defender on that side to go after him and he just flips it his team-mate who should net around 20 yards to a TD on the play.

So offense should look like this

    X X X O X X

Comeback route on the fifth X, and he takes an inside cut toward the field and just flips to the fourth X who can run any route he wants as long as he can get into position by the time the outside receiver cuts inside after catching the ball.

Do you guys prefer to rush one or two on defense? Man? Zone? Combination?

You know it all depends on the team your playing... If the quarterback is extremely athletic, you gotta play zone and rush one.

Because if you play man coverage, he will probably get past the rusher and if anyone breaks off their coverage to go after the quarterback he will have an easy throw.

If you play a guy with a good arm, the best way to beat him is to have two guys over deep and bring two each play and just hope to disrupt his rhythm.

That's what I think.. atleast. Anyone else got any ideas?

              Re: Flag Football Plays/Strategies

Our 7's team last year usually ran the cover two with two deep, three covering, and two blitzing. The key is to disguise the blitz by leaving the second guy playing short zone on the QB's blindside. If the first guy can get to him, the second guy can usually sneak in there while the QB is trying to avoid the first guy. Also, playing 3 deep and blitzing only one isn't that bad. We also ran a cover two/blitz five scheme on third/fourth and long that worked really well with the QB's that didn't have great arms.

Offensively, I designed most of the plays (we had about 15 or so), and we ran a lot of crossing patterns, usually perpendicular ones to confuse the defense. I don't know if people in your league are dumb enough to get caught by those. The best play is to hope that you can get some height advantage and lob it deep...the only team that beat us last year did that all game (our secondary was me (5'7'' then) and two other guys who are under 5'10'', and they had 2 WR who were 6'1'').

We only had one trick play, the double reverse triple option QB pass. Basically, it looked like a pro-form, with QB, HB1, HB2, WR1, WR2, WR3, WR4 (I don't know what your rules are, but Flag Football Canada says no blocking, so we didn't have any linemen or anything...not sure if that's different). WR 1/2 were on the left, WR 3/4 on the right. HB1 is lined up to the left of the QB, HB2 to the right.

              QB hands off to HB2
HB2 runs left, hands off to WR1
WR1 runs right hands off to WR3
WR3 can give the ball to HB1, who stays stationary in the backfield, or take it outside with WR2
QB runs a short left out pattern while WR1 hands it off, and then, depending on the coverage, either cuts back over the middle or goes deep.
After that, it works like an option pass...HB1, WR3 or WR2 can throw it to the QB or WR4, who runs a deep slant over the middle.

We ran it 6 times, and scored 6 times. Awesome play.

Also, if you run into trouble anytime during the play, there's a ton of guys around for the hook-n-ladder or short pass, and if everyone commits, WR4 is going deep.

My team hasn't won a game in 2 years, so don't look at me.

if you have a legit QB (that's a big if) that can through the deep ball on target, along with a fast WR, then use the "Hey you *pointing at the WR*, run a fly pattern, i'll hit you". Flood the other WR's on the other side of the field. If they give the fast guy help, then someone else will be open underneath, otherwise you have 1 on 1 with a fast reciever, so he should have a few steps. In my college intramural experience (we sucked, didn't have a decent QB, so had no shot) it's all about exploiting their weaknesses, while accentuating your talents. All football's like that, but in flag football you'll find much less skilled people that you can abuse.

I play tackle football with some friends on occasion, and a play that works often is the standard Flee Flicker. Works a lot of the time for our team. There is usually a WR deep that gets open, and is usually a score.

Hard to put together a team. The only time I get to play flag football is in church tournaments.

On defense usually I'll cover the most agile guy (I think it is) or someone my size. Most of the time I play a soft zone... seems to work as not that many people try to zip one pass me for whatever reason.

Anyways, we had this one play in this 8 vs 8 league (each team had to have 3 lineman) and we had one of the down lineman back off and a safety blitz. Trust me that play catches a lot of people off guard.

I think cover 2 is the best way to go on defense. Most of the time I see teams trying to air it out.

On offense, in patterns, double moves, option plays, screens, end-arounds... all those stuff in the NCAA and NFL should work.

That play should work. Not too many people are used to seeing the flea flicker.

We had a real athletic team so ran a lot of no huddle. Whoever caught the pass snapped the ball and we'd basically just sprint down the field and wear the other teams out.
