    Charles de Gaulle

    Has anyone ever written a paper on this guy? I have noooo idea on what I can focus my college paper's thesis on. Any help would be great!

      There are two areas you can focus on.

      1) His leadership of the Free French movement during World War II

      and/or

      2) The founding and presidency over the Fifth Republic of France

      He was a very interesting and controversial figure IMO. He was the one that recognized how futile it was to fight the Vietnam war and essentially handed it off to the Americans. There's a famous 1968 exchange at the White House where De Gaulle warned Nixon to get out of Vietnam as soon as possible. De Gaulle was also the head of France when they became the 4th member of the "nuclear club". De Gaulle even played a part in inflaming the Quebec seperatist mood in Canada when he famously shouted out "Vive le Quebec livre!" during a visit to Canada.

      Good luck if you so choose to do a thesis on him.
