    Ebay Help

I sold a PS3 to a guy in Canada and shipped it the day he paid. Well today I received an email from the buyer saying that he doesn't want the PS3 anymore because Canadian customs is making him pay a fee of $240 and he wants me to refund his money. I don't feel that I should have to refund his money since the sale is complete and shipment has occured and the package is in fine shape. I have already used the money he paid with to pay my credit card bill from buying the PS3 and used the leftover amount to get an HDTV today. Has anyone has this issue before and if so how did/would you handle it? Here is his email:

Hello, The item is held at UPS. I have been told that customs will cost $240 canadian. They have also told me that I can return the item to the sender and then no one pays duty. I'm sorry but I can not afford this. I will have to send the item back. I guess I will be out the cost of the shipping ($30) but I had no idea duty would be $240. Please contact me, thank you

The buyer should have checked that before he bid on the item. I would not refund the money. It is his lost not yours.

I agree, when it comes to something like electronics or something you have to pick up yourself then the buyer has to take it upon himself to find out what the customs fee may be.

It's the buyer's loss and not yours.

There is a very small fee for listing it which you do have to pay, but you do not have to pay the larger (relatively) final value fee.

I would tell him that he knew he would have to pay the tax so it's his issue to deal with. There's no way I'd send the money back to him and go thru the trouble of relisting, etc. You'll probably get negative feedback from him but make sure to post a reply to him stating that he was in Canada and should have known about the customs tax.

to bad for the buyer, like the other guy said, he should have knew this before hand, you got his money and you send the PS3, this is on him.

P.S, I would leave it alone until he try's to file something against you, if he paid through PayPal, papal will most likely not settle in his favor, he live in Canada and he should know these things. Not your fault.

Still sucks for him though... maybe a slight payback to his paypal account would make both sides happy. I mean, if only you give him $50 or so back that would make him feel alot better and probably make you feel better.

he shouldn't have to pay anything back, it's not the seller fault.

Fault and kindness are two totally different things. I didn't say he needs to or required to pay it back.

kindness my ***. that's on the buyer. I bidded on 2 HDD's one time thinking I wouldn't win of them and I won the other. So, could I say, well, I really didn't want that one to the seller of the item that I didn't think i'd win. Hell no, I sucked it up and paid for it. I know it's a different situation but on ebay, the buyer has to know what he's bidding on and what he's getting into especially when he's buying from the States.

I wouldn't refund ANYTHING back. I'd just tell him, sorry. You can afford to overpay for a PS3 on ebay but you can't afford to pay $240 custom charge, that's irresponsible and bergie shouldn't have to pay for that!

I know what your saying, but bergie56 already used the money, so he doesn't seem to have it to pay the guy back anything even if he were to do that, When it comes to business kindness is usually out the window, if I were bergie56 I wouldn't pay anything back either, thats just how I see it. The guy should have known he was going to pay custom's.

matter fact i'd take a pic of my *** and send him a message, dude, you're assed out. All Bergie has to do is tell him that he no longer has the money. Let the buyer file a complaint, i'm sure he'll lose. It just goes to show that mofos are spending their last dime trying to get a system they can't afford. You got over $600 easy but can't come up with $240?
