Same both my grandfathers fought in Europe. One was a navigator, radar operator on a P-61 Blackwidow, and the other was a gunner on a Sherman.

I hope people never forget the sacrifices made by that generation. The burden of what they saw,and what they went through stayed with a lot of these guys for their entire lives.

my grandfather fought in the korean war, got a purple heart. old bastard is still kicking and mean as hell. ex marines are the worst. but i digress. bless our troops and this day of remembrance. (sp?) on a side note, 30 years ago today, my birth, though that seems insignifigant compared to pearl harbor. go figure.

That doesn't surprise me one bit. They'll soon take the pledge of allegiance out of schools too. Patriotism isn't looked upon too kindly in school like it used to be.

                My grandpa did.

Never told anyone about it, though. Only rumors floating around our family is that he was part of Normandy, and that's why he never told anyone anything about it.

My Granfather's unit has their own website. On it you can trace their route into Germany and read about their highlights of the battles they fought. I'll have to dig it up....

Hmm looks like only the frontpage is working...

My grandfather was a lieutenant on the Samuel B. Roberts, a destroyer escort that fought in the Battle off Samar.

The Japanese actually occupied parts of Alaska. Most people aren't aware of that.
