Lost My Job.........

Well I worked in my local hospital for the last 8 years as a PC-Technician , and the hospital were doing major layoffs and I was told yesterday that I was being laid off, and in my job that means your gone, I really don't know what the hell to do right now, I mean I've been there for 8 years, and there were people who were there less time then me and I got the hook, they didn't really even give me a good reason, they told me they thought my work effort had fallen off compared to others, which is freaking bull$hit, I mean I get a review ever year and never had a complaint in any of my reviews, never in 8 years, was i ever written up for sick days late days, nothing zero. The place I work in is all about politics and who's @ss your kissing, and I don't kiss @ss. Now I have until January 12 to find something new, in the meeting yesterday I was in SHOCK that they were choosing me to lay me off compared to guys who I know I do a lot more work then in my work place, and everyone in my job loves me and always praised me for my work ethic. Like I said if my boss thought my work was being good enough he never once told me and never even brought me in to the office to warn me or anything. Like I said 8 years I'm there my reviews were great and never been written up for anything. I just don't get it, I didn't put up a fight at all yesterday in the office, but come Monday I think I need to be heard. I'm mean this $*it is bad, and I'm dealing with so much in my personal life right now too, and then this, I have been so stress out lately I lost 20lbs in 2 weeks, I'm fallen hard right now, anyway thanks guys for listening.

It's pretty much like that in every company unfortunately. Keep your head up, when one door closes another one opens.

If they layed you off, then you should be getting a severance package correct?

Is there someone who can arbitrate your situation? like a neutral party in Human Resources or even higher? I know most jobs are"at will"but believe me-If you can just find the right person that looks at files instead of the company lapdog club-things might go in your direction. Hopefully-being the kind of work you are in,something will come up quick. It's a f-ing shame that most companies decide to do this kind of stuff at the end of the year too. It's happened to me before and I did get lost for a minute,but I'm too damn tenacious to give up! Stay focused-and set your goals-and NEVER give up. I'm with you man-and I'm sure everyone else here is too.

I just finished that myself. laid off after 10 years from a technology compamny that I built most of the technology for, and was solely responsible for keeping the main business line running.

I can't tell you much but that it sucks to high heaven, and I hope things work out. There may be a better situation out there for you.

yeah I hear ya, I mean I hated the play anyway, but it was my way of living, I guess things happen for a reason. Again thanks to all you are supportive on this site, I mean it's like my second family, I mean that, guys like Fossen, WTF, Candyman, Fish, you know the rest of you. Thanks guys.

FF sorry to hear you lost your job especially before Christmas that bites. Things will turn around for you no doubt, having good work ethics in todays workforce is not common.

I was in your situation many moons ago. I learned from that experience and started my own business and never looked back.

I wish you the best in finding a new job in 2006 or 2007.
