I hear you. I've switched my program a lot over the past 3 or 4 years.
I used to do splits religiously, but for the past 6 months have been doing full-body workouts.
I love them. No more drudging through 12 or 15 sets for the same body part.
I found myself getting mentally fatigued.
Knowing that after 3 sets of squats, I have chest, I can bust through that with gusto.
I hear you about the long arms. I have them, and thin wrists too and I found my wrists and shoulders were aching a lot more than I liked.
The dumbbells allow me a lot more control so my elbows never dip below 90-degrees, saving my shoulders.
I enjoy squats (as much as anyone can enjoy those horrible exercises) but I too feel it in my knees after a while.
I might try those smith machine lunges to give them a break.
Like Jonesy said, it's all about preference and body type.
You can take 100 people and have them all mimic Arnold's routine to a Tee, but all 100 won't look anything like Arnold.
Find what works for you.
I'm loving full-body workouts. I'll probably stick with them for the long-haul.
