My knees are a weak spot for me too, so I've strayed away from squats/deadlifts for far too long. Starting back into it, and you can tell big time how big of an impact they have on your regiment.
I hear you. I've switched my program a lot over the past 3 or 4 years.
I used to do splits religiously, but for the past 6 months have been doing full-body workouts.
I love them. No more drudging through 12 or 15 sets for the same body part.
I found myself getting mentally fatigued.
Knowing that after 3 sets of squats, I have chest, I can bust through that with gusto.

I hear you about the long arms. I have them, and thin wrists too and I found my wrists and shoulders were aching a lot more than I liked.
The dumbbells allow me a lot more control so my elbows never dip below 90-degrees, saving my shoulders.

I enjoy squats (as much as anyone can enjoy those horrible exercises) but I too feel it in my knees after a while.
I might try those smith machine lunges to give them a break.

Like Jonesy said, it's all about preference and body type.
You can take 100 people and have them all mimic Arnold's routine to a Tee, but all 100 won't look anything like Arnold.
    Find what works for you.

I'm loving full-body workouts. I'll probably stick with them for the long-haul.

I'm starting to get a bit more defined in my chest, and arms and starting to see some growth... but definitely not near my goal physique of Brad Pitt from Fight Club, or Taylor Lautner from the 2nd Twilight movie on.

Still going to work super hard to gain at least 15 lbs of muscle by Summer time.
That's awesome. Good for you, man!

The older I get the more I realize that diet is about 80% of the battle.
I have a major sweet-tooth so I have to be conscience of the chocolate I eat.
I'm fine without soda or chips. But chocolate and fast food are my major vices.
I'm lucky that I have a fast metabolism, but it's slowing down. I need to start eating better if I want to look half-decent in my 40's (which are fast approaching).

I have a stay at home wife who loves to bake...

        I lose.

You can't NOT eat what she makes, she's so excited about it. I don't want to go supermodel and go throw it up after eating it... so I've come to grips that as long as she doesn't mind a little excess covering the muscles... then whatever

Totally agree about diet being the hard part. I love to train my *** off but i also LOVE to eat and LOVE to have some beers. I look decent enough now and have made some great progress but it's the always the diet that holds me back from achieving spectacular results....

I've officially started back on superset training. Finished my first workout a few minutes ago, and WOW... Feels good, in a bad/good sort of way. The burn was immense, and I have a pump like I haven't had in a while. Good to mix things up a little bit.

With my back out of commission, I'm having to postpone this week's workout. I'm really upset about it, because I had found my ryhtm in the gym.

I gained 7 pounds in two weeks, but none of it was actual fat.. all muscle.

I finally started using Syntha-6, but I haven't had much chance to give any feedback. Most of the people I know say it gives them leaner muscle and helps out big time, with their lifting.

What!? Some of that had to be water weight.

How does the Syntha-6 taste to you? I'm thinking about buying some True Mass, which is made by the same company.

I haven't tried everything, but of the three I've tried, It's got the best taste.

Just started taking Syntha-6 and imo is the best tasting protein I've ever had. Better tasting than Muscle Milk, EAS and ON. I have the banana flavor, btw.

Don't know if you guys know about this, but if you use Amazon's Subscribe and Save you can get a 5lb tub of Syntha-6 for a little over $37 shipped. I'm really considering giving that a go as well considering that's right around the same price as it would cost to get 5lbs of the protein from Wal-Mart.

                      http://www.amazon.com/BSN-Syntha-6-P...5140637&sr=8-1

You can use the same thing for most weight gainers and some other supplements. You can always change the time it gets delivered again, or just cancel it right away after getting the discount.

What do you guys do as far as protein? Before, after, both? I figured I'd maybe have a granola bar before I lift, then some protein powder with water after. I'm looking to gain some good lean muscle, not really bulk up.

Can't wait to start up the new program Monday. Got some good tips from WTF, so I just wanna make sure I have the nutrition side in line. Diet wise, I know what to do, thanks to Insanity. However, I've never really known what the best way is to consume protein for the best results and recovery.

For me, it depends on what I'm doing on each particular day.

I usually work out at night, so I will either have a protein shake in the morning, or try to consume my protein through what I eat, like eating tuna for lunch.

I usually mix a drink about an hour before workouts on lifting days and then again another.a few hours after workout to help with recovery.

If its a cardio day, I try to take my full serving of protein before the workout, to help power through it..

I'm also still taking jack3d for pre workout

I'm not exactly an expert on the subject and I'm always open to other peoples suggestions.

@AUChase, how do you like jack3d ? My roommate just switched from Juggernaut (which he gave me) to that and he loves it thus far.

As for me on lift days, juggernaut before the workout, Syntha-6 after, ON Casein before bed. On non-workout days, ON Whey and/or Syntha-6 at some point during the day (one with breakfast, one as a meal replacement) and then ON Casein before bed.

And like AUChase, whether it be through a Wheaties fuel bar or whatever meal I'm eating (breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc), I try to get a good amount of protein in there somewhere.

One of the trainers at our gyms actually cautions us against using most of the pre-workout supplements, like Jack3d because of an Ingredient almost all of them use which is called 1,3 Dimethylamylamine. Which can cause rapid heart rate, higher blood pressure to unsafe levels and can possibly lead to stroke like conditions. Similar effect to what Ephedrine caused, which is now banned by the FDA.

Just a quick video on the dangers of 1,3 Dimeth.

Just take this with a grain of salt, this most likely will not effect you with the 25 mg dosing, but just in case if anyone has high blood pressure, or a family history of strokes, or heart conditions.
