Haha well that second part obviously answers the first part. With that size, I doubt 30 grams of protein (per shake) would affect you in the least bit. I'm ranging around 40-50 grams per shake right now.

I'm 6'1 185-190, and it's pretty much what I wanted to achieve since I started training about five years ago. Much like my buddy, I was around 160 pounds and looking to bulk up. So I started intensive training while taking protein and not only did I get a nice look, but I increased my general strength as well. I didn't want to become a wall, just some hearty muscle so I wouldn't fly away when the winds commenced.

The training also paid off when I hit the beaches during my stay in LA. I felt comfortable with no shirt, which I would've been afraid to do if I was the skinny stick back in my teenage years.

He wants to know how dangerous it is, and if there are in fact, any side effects. I asked a trainer last night, and he said it is fine if used correctly, twice a day, in your shake or in water. Could you guys shed some light on this?

It's not dangerous. The only real possible side effect is stomach cramping, but as long as you drink enough water you'll be fine.

However, if he's just starting out, he probably doesn't need it, your going to make quick gains when you first start out anyway, so I'd wait a few months and then consider using it again.

I don't really see the point in creatine personally, but to each their own. I'm not trying to look like a body builder and it's a waste of money in my case.

I read somewhere that the body can only consume up to 60g or so of protein at a time. If this is true you're wasting some protein there. I would look into that.

I dunno at 6'8 225 the rules of thumb might be a bit different.

Got a question for you guys...

Worked out biceps and back on Wednesday. Woke up Thursday, and my arms are killing me. Not like a "I'm paying for not working out in awhile" soreness, but real pain in both arms/forearms. The pain is really by my elbows and up my arms to where it hurts like hell to straighten them out. I've had pain for 3 days now, constantly, and was wondering if anybody knows what this is or has it happened to them.

It hurts like hell, but I'm not too concerned since its in both arms. I probably just strained some tendons in both arms but I want to make sure its something that isn't serious.

Sounds like regular pain from over exerting urself. Especially since you said it hurts when straightening them out.

I don't really know whether you performed new exercises, or if you just started lifting after taking a break...

But what it sounds like you are experiencing is DOMS, or Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness.

Kind of along the lines of what USF was saying...its caused from you overdoing it, exerting excessive force on those muscles. The muscles you were using may not have been accustomed to the intensity of the workout. The pain your experiencing may be the result of protein degradation in the muscle. Histamine and edema accumulation pushes up against nerves in your muscle and causes the pain.

Contrary to what many believe, pain does not equal gain. And muscle breakdown is not neccessary for muscle build up. In fact, it actually opposes it.

But you should be ok. You might even be able to do that EXACT workout with very minimal pain following the workout due to physiological adaptations. Nothing close to the pain you are experiencing now.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this but I was wondering if anyone could who's just starting to try and get into shape any tips? I'm about 6'0 255lbs. I've started to try and start eating healthier and drop all the junk food. Right now I've started lifting weights on my home gym 4 days aweek. And will normally walk on the treadmill or eliptical machine(normally alternate days) for 40mins aday, 5-6x a week.

I'm not really so worried about weight per se. Just more interested in losing the fat and toning up abit. Anyway was just wondering if what I'm doing now will actually produce results or not?

                        Thanks in advance,
                        Jeffrey

Yep what you're doing will get you results man. Just stay with it and the lbs will go away...not overnight...but they will go.

On a personal note: I can't lift nearly as much because I'm in the police academy where we run about 3 miles a day and do 100+ push ups. I'm pretty steady at 6-3 215 ~12% bf. Not too shabby but I want to get around 10% bf in a month. As always, diet is the key.

It's been getting better the past few days so I think I'll be alright by Wednesday or Thursday. Don't remember EXACTLY what I did but:

4 Sets Biceps curls with straight bar
4 Sets Forearm curls with straight bar
                            3 Sets Lat Pulldown
                            3 Sets Row
4 Sets Bicep curl with free weights
2 Sets another bicep exercise I don't know what to call haha

That's all I really remember. I know I mixed in a little more back exercises and maybe another bicep, but that was the jist of it where I think I messed something up. By the way, I hadn't worked out Biceps in probably a month...just got lazy after the holidays.

Yeah instead of doin a bunch of bicep stuff. Do this

                              3 sets of pull-ups
3 sets of curls each arm - I do them sitting on an incline bench so you dont use any muscles other then your biceps and shoulders *Also try to lock your shoulders in a comfortable position so the only thing moving is ur elbow*
3 Sets of a curls using a curl bar or straight bar

                              Thats plenty for biceps.

Also if you want bigger arms ur better off working triceps since its a much more dominant muscle.

I remember when I first starting lifting so idiot told me to do everything to failure - so at the time all I had was a pair of 15lb dumbells and I did a set of like 100 - 125. After that I couldnt straighten my arms out for a week.

Its about good reps not alot of reps.

Thanks man. Yeah, that idiot could have been me because that what I thought as well until now. I always pushed myself to go until I couldn't go but I know the consequences. I'm just surprised that this hasn't happened to me before or that I haven't had a hernia.

I've just now gotten serious about lifting and getting into better shape. I'm not looking for getting bigger but mostly just getting leaner and cut. Right now this is my weekly routine that I'll be doing:

                                Mon - Tri's and Chest
                                Tues - Bi's and Back
                                Wedn - Legs and Shoulders
                                Thursday - Off
                                Friday - Full body
Sat - Off/Cardio if available (I'm usually pretty busy Saturdays)
                                Sun - Basketball

Plus, trying to get on a better diet which is the #1 priority but it's been easy to go lift than eat right. Need to turn that around quickly. Also I try to end every workout with at least a little bit of cardio, whether that's elliptical machines or biking. Jogging on treadmills kills my feet and knees since I have flat feet.
