    Anyone here get cold sores?

Hopefully this thread can avoid becoming perverted.

As far as I can tell I was born w. the virus in my body (or acquired it at a young age) since both my parents and my sister get cold sores from time to time.

My sister easily gets them the worse and most frequently. Anyway, I haven't gotten one since the summer of '02 and I figured my preventative measures were doing their job.

Until on Christmas night I got a nice fat one on the left corner of my lip. Usually I wouldn't care too much, cept I've been dating this new girl for about a month and now there's a pretty damn good chance I'm gonna still have this on my lip for New Year's. So I get to meet alot of her friends and not give her a midnight kiss, or have my lips touch any part of her body throughout the night, with a nice fat herpe on my lip!!

Vaseline reduces the length of a cold sore...
18-1 hell of a season regardless

Never had a cold sore, but I hear Abreva is pretty good for treating them. It can be picked up anywhere over the counter, without a prescription.

Learn more about Abreva products and find rapid relief from cold sores and cold sore pain. Find out how Abreva ingredients can heal cold sores and relieve pain.

Abreva works okay but didn't really speed up the process too much the few times I used it.

I iced my lip alot when I first felt the tingling feeling and then put toothpaste on it (a folk remedy, helps dry out the cold sore) and used Carmex which I also use anyway as lip balm. The one I have right now has actually gone down quite a bit in just two days, hopefully it'll be cleared up by Sunday.

I use to use Carmex until I realized that it won't be as effective if it's used all the time. Being in school a little, I've understood more about what a cold sore was. A good preventative measure that I've heard of was to take some nail polish remover to your lip when you feel the tingling. I usually don't worry about having one too much. They appear when I have a weak immune system from lack of sleep w/ stress, or if the weather does too much like goes cold, then warm and cold again. I also get it if I get a cut in my mouth from like a basketball hitting me in the face or me biting my lip on accident while playing. I'm more of the "I could care less if it makes me look attractive or not" approach and try to take some alcohol to it every chance I get. Try to change your carmex usage and use regular lip balm. That way when you use carmex, it could be more effective against it. Sorry about that on the real. Hope it heals. Eat some vitamins to boost your immune system also.

I got em all the time when I had braces. I just used Carmex. But like luv_mist said, don't use it all the time. Put it on for about 30 minutes and then wipe it off and it should feel a ton better.

I get them once in a while. I hadn't had one in about 3 years until a couple weeks ago when I got one on the tip of my tongue... Man did that thing hurt!

If you can take the pain:

Sterilized Needle+ Cotton Balls + Nail Polish Remover + Abreva + Ice= down in a day, not noticeable in 2 days, and completely gone (except for either a blister or just raw skin depending on how you respond) in 4 days tops.

After the needle is used and the cotton ball absorbs anything in the area (so it doesnt spread) cycle ice to keep the metabolic activity down, nail polish remover to basically destroy the area over and over again... and Abreva to kill the virus and heal the skin over and over again.

When its gone and the skin is raw...use Vitamin E or any skin lotion to heal the area.
