2 and a half days enough for wisdom tooth removal??

i have 3 wisdom teeth still under the gums. botton two are coming in completely sideways. top left is completely out of the gums but still intact. so it seems like itll be 3 major pulls and 1 minor.

anyone with experience? my surgery is scheduled this coming friday and im having second thoughts. Im already gonna miss friday for school and I dont want to miss monday or the following week.

I can honestly deal with the pain just fine with codine but its the swelling and chimpmunk apperance im worried about for college.

should i do it spring break when i have 6-7 days to rest or attempt to get this done?

i guess I was stupid thinking I could be ok. but we'll see

There shouldn't be that much swelling. As long as you follow the Doc's orders and don't get dry socket... you'll be fine by Monday.

Never had mine removed, but I know a bunch of people who have. It seems to be different for everybody. I've known people who are fine within a day while others are still in pain a full 3 or 4 days later. I would say the majority of people I have known were fine within 2-3 days, but I know some who followed the instructions, didn't get dry socket and still weren't fully recovered within 4 days.

And don't give up your Spring Break for the surgery! It is a popular time to get it done, but if you're in college you should have more exciting things to attend to that week. Do it this Friday, it is still early in the semester, you shouldn't miss anything too important or impossible to makeup.

Most of them aren't that bad. Mine was a nightmare however.
My bottom left tooth needed to be broken into several peices to remove it. I was swollen for almost 2 weeks. My entire neck was green and yellow.

But I know people that only missed a day after having theirs removed.
A word of advice however. Try to do whatever you can to freshen your breath. After this surgery your breath will be RANK from the dry blood and saliva build up in there. It's horrible.

I was only out for a couple days, had no complications at all. I was pretty lucky though. It's hard to predict how your mouth is going to react.

And the chipmunk feeling isn't so bad. Just make sure you're icing it a lot the day of the surgery. Mine went away pretty fast and if you do have it, so what? Tell them you had yoru wisdom teeth pulled, most people have either had it done or they understand.

If they don't then just make fun of yourself, that always works

Actually, even though I was in pain, I enjoyed the time off of work. I layed around watching movies and playing games the whole time. That part was awesome.

My dentist recommended removal of my wisdom teeth. Thing is, I have no pain or anything. So does it matter if I do it now or later?

If you do it later, and they start coming in, they could disrupt your other teeth, and lead to other problems. I had no pain either, but when you get the x-rays done and the consult, you really see that maybe you should. I'd def. say try and get a consult done, to see what the oral surgeon thinks.

As for the OP...I was fine in half a day. Would've been fine almost right after, but I had a bad reaction to the medicine they gave me - Vicodin - so I got sick. I couldn't eat for 2 or 3 days, or at least chew anything other than mashed potatoes, pasta, eggs, etc. Never swelled up, was never really in pain. But, as someone said, it's different for everyone. My sister swelled up for a week, my other sister was in severe pain for 3 or 4 days.

I had mine pulled about 2 years ago, not bad at all for me, no swelling, just that it bleeds for a while that first day but they should give you gauze you can stick back there to absorb it. The 2nd day after I was back to eating regular food and stuff, just had milkshakes the first day after.

I'd recommend not oversleeping your pain meds though, I woke up one time about 3 hours after I was due to take more and it was pretty painful, but the vicodin helped considerably.

That was how it was in my case. No pain at all but it was recommended I had them removed before they could cause problems.
It's up to you. You might never have an issue with yours.

Teeth are funny little things. Same deal for me-then-a little pain here-stop-a little more pain-stopped-get the idea? well, one morning I wake up and BOOM! puffed up jaw bigtime! 2 impacted wisdom teeth on one side and ready to party. My jaw ached so bad I could barely open my mouth to speak. I ended up at the Oral surgeon's office later that day. I got antibiotics for a week or so,then,He pulled em' all out at once. It sucked because after the procedure,I was sick as a dog for the rest of the day. I was down for about 3 days but got some cool meds for pain. The only good thing about this was the procedure was complete knockout for me. So during the removal I didn't feel or see a thing. Which is good, because it can get kinda messy. Did you ask your dentist about a timeframe for removal of your teeth? I would.

Really, if the dentist reccomends it, you'd be wise to just get it done. It really won't do you any good to keep them in, and getting them out is 'safer.'

When I got mine removed I had them done on a Thursday, took Friday off from school and was good to go on Monday with a little bruising. I hope you are doing general anesthesia because that is really the way to go.

Normal recovery time is 2 days. The big question is, are any of the teeth that need extraction already exposed? That will make it easier in most cases. As others have said, just follow the surgeons orders so you can avoid dry socket as it is very painful and often requires an extra trip back to the dentist/oral surgeon.

As for the other person, get it done now if you have dental insurance/can afford it. The pain may not be there now but if they ever start to push through the gum or affect the other teeth watch out. The other thing to be cautious of is an abscess. Most excruciating pain I have ever been in and something that if left untreated can lead to a blood disease. Never fool around with your teeth

The longer you wait, the harder the recovery can be based on how the wisdom teeth come in. I had 4 removed years ago and I never had much bruising or swelling but I iced my face like crazy. Only one tooth gave me problems and that was bleeding and annoying me for a few days. The others weren't bad. Everyone is different. It depends a lot on how difficult they come out.
