    Traveling to Las Vegas

I am looking to go to Las Vegas with two friends during spring break from March 1-4. We will all be 21 and will be looking to stay cheap on the strip. Please give me any advice on where to get the best rates, what to do and whatever else you feel is important to know.

Put me down for the same interest.

Myself and three of my buddies are going the first weekend of April I believe. We are all 21 as well. This will be my second time in Vegas, but the first was when I was around 12 years old, so ya.

What clubs do I need to go to? What shows do I need to go to? What are the top three things we HAVE to do while we are down there?

We are all four big drinkers, partiers, or whatever, and we are all really big gamblers.

Off the top of my head,

It's 4.1:1 against hitting a flush on the river and 4.75:1 against rivering a straight. Don't chase.

I believe you have a better chance of getting an STD from one of the girls in Vegas than you do either of those.

Yep. All sounds good. Where have you stayed and how much was air and hotel?

I'm staying at the Stratosphere this Saturday thru Tuesday night. My goal is 70 drinks for the 3+ days.

                  Re: Traveling to Las Vegas

I've gone twice to Vegas, both for New Year's a few years ago. It was awesome. I stayed at Excalibur the first year. Stay away from there. Stayed at New York, New York the second year. It was better, probably the best place to stay on the South Strip. ESPNZone is right there and there's several other casinos near there. It's a little bit of a walk to the Central Strip, but its not too bad for a night or two.

My favorite casino to play at was the Bellagio. Really nice place. My friends and I came up with a good plan if you want to get really drunk really fast for cheap there. Play the nickel or quarter slots right by where the cocktail waitresses get the drinks and give them a nice tip to start off, and you should be able to get drink after drink pretty quickly after you order. From there you can go over to the tables and "sober up" playing blackjack or craps.

Just thinking about this makes me want to head back to Vegas, minus the losing $500+ in a couple days gambling.

                    Re: Traveling to Las Vegas

Whatever you do, don't gamble while drunk.

Take LOTS of money. For everything.

You guys should go to either the Mandalay Bay or Bellagio buffets. Both are AWESOME, and despite the pretty expensive price (20-25 bucks), you get an INSANE amount of food.

I'm still only 19, but I went with friends a couple summers ago. We stayed @ MGM, and my cut of the hotel bill for two nights was $60. It's definitely cheap at a hotel like MGM, or Excalibur (P.O.S. hotel, though), but my guess is that you're not going to be doing much staying in the hotel room anyway.

                    Stay AWAY from Circus Circus.

The Palms is where all the younger crowd hangs out. Not directly on the strip, but it's right off of it. It's right by Rio.

There are lots of clubs, I just forgot the names of them. Rum Jungle in Mandalay is sticking out in my mind. Bear in mind, again, that I have never been to these clubs. I've just heard that they're pretty damn cool.

As far as shopping goes....the mall @ Caesars is very extensive, and the Desert Sands mall @ Aladdin is pretty nice too. Both have lots of selection and you can spend quite a bit of time in each. There's a nice shuttle/monorail type service between hotels too, so you don't ALWAYS have to take nasty sex-filled taxis.

                      Re: Traveling to Las Vegas

I went in June of '05 with 9 other guys for one of my friends' birthday. We stayed at the most luxurious hotel on the strip...the Westward Ho!!!! Ok, it's not on the strip anymore because I believe they tore it down, but what an experience that was. It was basically a Motel 6 with a casino attached, right next door to Circus Circus and across the street from the Riviera. They were famous for their gigantic hot dog that they sold in the cafeteria (that's the best way to describe it). Anyway, we were 10 guys on a budget, and the birthday boy's mom got us all a pretty good deal for 3 days, 2 nights. Great gambling there at the Ho, seemed like a good place to win some money back.

First night we were there we saw Blue Man Group at the Luxor. I was skeptical, didn't think I'd enjoy it. Came out and it was one of the coolest things I've experienced. Ate the seafood buffet at the Rio that night, unbefreakinglievable. Spent the rest of the night wandering the strip.

Second night, half the party decided to stay at the Ho and gamble, other half, including myself, wanted to go to a club. Like I said, some of the guys couldn't spend too much money, so we decided on the Voodoo Lounge at the Rio. $25 cover is a lot cheaper than the bigger clubs, but it was awesome. It's 50 floors up on the roof overlooking the strip. The five of us that went had a great time, while each of the five who stayed to gamble won quite a bit of money. Ended that night at the Palms until around 5am or so and caught a cab back to the Ho for an early morning checkout. Next time I go I'd like to stay a few more days and definitely stay at one of the nicer casinos, but all in all I was only at the Ho to sleep.

Well it's not 4 full days so I just put 3+ days, but I am now going to try to acclimate myself to Vegas time by pretending that it's 3 hours ago until I leave. I hope I don't miss my flight.

I would get a place in the Mandalay Bay/Luxor/Excalibur/New York New York/MGM area (South Strip, also close to the airport).. you'd be set. Those 5 are situated fairly close to each other, all of them are easily accessible by an outside walkway or indoor walkway, they also have a couple clubs in them.. Studio 54 (MGM), Coyote Ugly (NYNY), Piano Bar (NYNY) and some others. Palms has Rain, Caesars has Pure, which is prob one of the most popular and there's others of course.

You can find some good food and a decent Steak and Eggs at a casino called Arizona Charlies ($2.99 but its off the strip), there's some pretty good buffets at casinos called Station Casinos (Boulder, Sunset, Palace.. some other), I believe it's Friday Nights at the Boulder Station they have all you can eat Steak and Shrimp for 10.99 or something.

I would also avoid getting any drinks at a club (very overpriced). If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them.
