How about an air filter? Fish need oxygen in the water to survive. Just keeping them in a bowl in water is not sufficient.

Betas dont need those things, just change the water every few days.

I was like, "Rrrrrrrrrrrright" and I walked out of the store without the fish. Haven't thought about getting one since.

I had a beta a couple years ago, it killed itself by nosediving into the marbles at the bottom of tank.

It was probably the bottled water that did it. They take a lot of ions, minerals, etc. out of bottled water, that should be in tap water. You probably created a hypertonic solution that caused neurological cell swelling and eventually death.

Thanks, guys. Keep more solutions coming... when she goes to get a new one, she's going to make sure that she gets everything right by asking questions. She did at Wal-Mart, but the guy didn't know **** about fish.

Re: How did my friend kill her fish?

              So, a few possibilities:

              1) Did microwaving the water send some sort of radiation into the water that fish can't handle? Did she fry its brain?

              2) Is bottled water not the right water to use?

              3) Should have she cleaned the rocks/tank before using it?

              4) Was the fish attempting to commit suicide?

              ---

Probably had to do with microwaving the water. Never heard about doing that, but the best way to get water at room temperature is to just let it stand by itself... never microwave water that fish go in.

Anyways, bottled water is what the people at PETCO and PETSmart has always recommended my family Blzer. Before that we used to use tap water and drop a few anti-chlorine chemicals in it before we put the fish in. THere's nothing wrong with using bottled water, we've been doing that for more than a year and the only reason one of our fish died was because it was a tropical fish and it froze for a while and the others kept nipping at it, lived for a couple of weeks before finally saying "**** this, my fins are useless."

The only fish I've bought at Wal-Mart has been bait.

Did she accidently let the fish hit the side of the tank? Happened to my beta in like 2nd grade. It slammed against the tank pretty hard during pet day, floated to the top...died.
