Yah that would bother me as well. It's definitely inappropriate for a teacher to do that. It's probably not worth making a big stink about it though.

Nah I'm not going to, it's not worth it. The half-assed response he gave when I asked him if he had the right to do that also had me thinking. I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on this.

I don't know the letter of the law in this situation. But I find it disturbing that he would open the phone on an incoming message. Probably would be wise to implement the pasword/lock feature on the phone.

Well, I didn't have time to do that because he told me to close it and give it to him.

He's probably saying in case it happens again.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I won't let it happen again, but it's kind of sad that now I have to worry about teachers looking through my phone if I ever do have it out again.

Yah, in the future just shut it off. Too bad if he wants it right away. If somebody turns the phone on then you have a real beef.

I don't know if the teacher did anything technically wrong, but they are a **** for doing it.

My school didn't allow cell phones either but I don't think any teacher ever enforced the rule.

I meant in case this kind of situation pops up in the future.

Don't have it out again, problem solved.

If that happened to me I would have called the teacher on it... why? Because that is the way I am. I would have said what the hell are you doing? He had no right what so ever to open and view the picture. They have rights... but not rights as in going through your private information on your cell phone unless they proved it served some sort of threat. Your phone vibrating is not a threat. You broke a rule. Your phone should have been taken away and end of story. School probably has a list of rules you had to sign off on the cell phone policy. Unless it says they can open messages without justification, he shouldn't have done it. Personally, I would have filed an complaint. Just a jacka$$ of a teacher.

I would've done the same thing. That's probably why my teachers usually hated me.
