    Obtaining a Passport

I'm off to Mexico in 6 weeks and need to get my passport in a hurry. Because passports are required to travel to Mexico now, there's about a 10 week wait for passports.

My question is: has anyone ever used an expedited passport service before like Passport Express? If so, what was your experience? Or do you recommend another expedited service?

I'm in the process of getting my passport and went through the postal service. I just filled out the passport form online and printed it out. I went to the post office and paid for the expedited service. They said I should have it between 2-4 weeks.

Question for the board related to this topic, do you now need your passport to drive into Canada?

How much did you pay additional for the service and when did you go to the Post Office to get your passport? I don't leave until May 18th, so I may be able to use the Post Office.

If you travel by land or sea, you DON'T need a passport until 01.01.08. As of 01.23.07 any AIR travel to and from Canada requires a passport.

Since you're driving, you shouldn't have a problem.

Could've sworn you needed a passport to drive back into the country.

Glad to hear you don't, though.

Probably a good idea to have one nonetheless.

I ordered a passport ~3 weeks ago for my trek to Europe at the end of May, and I went with the regular service. They said it could take up to 10 weeks, and it was $100. Expedited service gets it to you in 2-4 and is an additional $60.

That's great news. Thanks for the update!

Yeah. I got my pictures taken for it at AAA, but still haven't went to the Post Office to apply for a passport. Should do that next weekend.

I also thought you needed one to come back from Canada.

I read an article recently that said it's taking much longer to get passports due to a pretty big surge in people requesting them. However it sounds like others have had good luck in getting them quickly. Here's the article:

I got one last summer and it took about 4 weeks to get it.
