What did you want to be when you grew up?

All of us as kids had grand dreams of what we would be when we grew up, so what was yours?

Mine changed of course many times. For a while I wanted to play Major League Baseball then that moved onto NBA dreams.

When I first started HS, already realizing the NBA wasn't in my future I turned to wanting to become a Sports Agent, but then I decided law school would be too much work. (For those reading this who don't know, I finish law school this Fall ). From there I don't really know where it went to. Sort of ironically I remember taking that job aptitude test in 10th grade and some of the jobs that kicked back were Lawyer, Umpire/Referee, Barber, Insurance Agent, Artist, and Chef. Oddly enough looking at my life now and my interests, that thing was pretty accurate other than the Barber part.

Well....like almost every kid that grew up in the 60's and 70's I wanted so much to be a professional baseball player....but all that changed when there was a huge warehouse fire a couple of blocks from where I lived(in N.Y.C.)
We all ran down there and watched for hours as the firemen broke windows...dragged in hose and chased the fire from one floor to another. There were so many trucks there we couldn't believe it.
The driver of one of the Engines saw the four of us standing there and put us in the cab of one of the rigs not being used. That was pretty much it for me.
Especially when the rest of those guys came out..black from soot...looking like GIANTS and they asked us(kiddingly) if we wanted a beer(we were like 8 or 9 years old ) and let us sit with them while they recouped. They looked like they had so much fun I couldn't believe it!
Well....I have 14 years in the F.D.N.Y. now and I always return the favor. If I see a little kid hanging out after a job...I always ask him if he wants to sit in the rig. I never get turned down on the offer. I guess I can call it "investing in the future of the F.D.N.Y.)......even after all that's happened to us...it's still the GREATEST JOB ON EARTH.

Sportscaster. Always wanted to be one. Didn't matter what network, so long as it was a national or at the very least, a large regional one like Fox Sports Net.


I think that dream is in reach. My major here at UA is broadcasting.

Even though I assume you're joking... it ain't all that.

Anyhow.. early in my childhood I always wanted to be a meteorologist or storm chaser. Later on I changed it to psychologist...

My major? Psychology.

Sportscaster. Either calling an actual live game or an anchor like on Sportscenter. When I was younger, when I played a football or baseball video game I would turn off the commentary and announce the game myself.

Don't know, when I grow up. I will let you know. I guess I wanted to be a baseball player, my cousin played in the Majors and he would tell us these great stories about playing on the same team with Cal R. and going to the World Series with the O's.

That sounds way, WAY too familiar. Not only do I think that law school is going to be a bit too labor-intensive for the way I like to do things, you have to be an ******* to be a sports agent, and I'm not.

That said, when I was younger I wanted to be a meteorologist. I love weather events, and if it wasn't for the unnecessary sciences I would have to study to get to what I actually want to study, I'd do it.

I wanted to be an orthodontist, after seeing the money they stole from my parents over my teeth

In high school I shifted towards being an architect, and later settled on Civil Engineering, since it has the "design" aspects of architecture, offered better money, and I guess was the culmination of all that building and creating with Lincoln Logs, Legos, etc. from my childhood.

Dentist, then Orthodontist. Because both doctors I had as a kid were really nice, funny guys.
