Re: You know what I was thinking.....

I'll try and provide a little thought on this........

You brought up the age thing......... as you know, some 27 year olds don't act like 27 year olds in getting their point across........ you got dudes 30 years old acting like little kids putting people on blast about a simple opinion.......... so the age thing doesn't work quite as well as you would think.

You think Cowboys fans get emotional about Tony Romo? That doesn't even compare to how emotional a person can get when talking about politics/religion..... even the most level-headed person could possibly let their emotions get the better of them.

Most of the OS Family would be intelligent and mature about the discussion......... but you would have the people that post an agenda-laden statement and just leave the topic/boards just to get a rise out of people. Some people like to refer to them as trolls.

I do miss the EE forum myself (it was entertainment and knowledge to me reading those types of posts) but all-in-all, I think the way it is now is a perfect imperfection......... we don't want the mods working 25/8 trying to keep the boards political, but in line.

My whole point is that it was always believed that OS was a family site when the stats point otherwise. So its not impossible to have intellegent convos about more mature topics. It would be hard to mod of course but overall, it would bring more life to the site. Right now, speaking for myself of course, I get bored at work because there is'nt hardly anything worthwhile to discuss. I know I'm not the only one that feels like this.
Age does not dictate intelligent conversation.

OS is great how it is and I hope it doesn't turn into the site I mentioned. Then again we don't have openly alcoholic mods who find it funny to abuse power or dumb hicks who do the same.

If a person cant post within the rules of the site than that person deserves to get banned. If he was banned from some type of vendetta for speaking his mind, thats diffrent also. If someone cant post in a mature and adult manner than they shouldn't post at all or learn how to post. Besides, people get banned around here for less. As for mods, I dont fault mods because each one of them has a diffrent personality and their own limitations when it comes to threads staying open or closed, giving infractions, etc. All you can do is learn who's known for what and adjust accordingly.

But, as is the case with PG-13 movies... if they aren't to your liking, don't see them.

I could see an argument if OS didn't work at PG-13... but it does.

"Pulp Fiction"... doesn't work as a PG-13 movie...

"Schindler's List"... probably not as powerful as a PG-13 movie...

          OS... works under those guidelines...

If anyone is not visiting OS because of lack of debate, nudity or extrememly course subject matter... they were probably here for the wrong reason to begin with.

FWIW, most of the bannings came or were sure alleged to come from a Moderator and a Member butting heads on an issue, both breaking the rules, and the Mod abusing his power. I am with you in I'd love to have that type of discussion with some of the members on this board, but I can appreciate the headache the mods and administrators want to avoid.

All those things you stated make for a more fleshed out impression of a person. As much time as people spend coming to this site, it would be nice if one can know a persons real personality outside their love of sports and sports games. I'm just all for a real community and getting to know some of you guys better. I've played on XBOX Live with some of you, the way some of you post on the forums and the way you guys act in real life are 2 completely diffrent people. I've been here damn near 5 years and I see the same people every single day. Wouldn't it be nice to actually know them on a more personal level? Whether you love them or hate them.

Re: You know what I was thinking.....

That's BS. To imply that you can't tell 90% of the regular poster's personal politic, morals and opinions through the forums that we already have is an enormous stretch.

Furthermore, since so many folks are already of the opinion that 99.99999% of the discipline on this forum comes from the Mods/Admins getting in personal conflicts and then flexing their power... why in the world would you want to open up a more opinionated OS that would simply give the evil OS regime more ways, reasons and excuses for our Poster Genecide?

Bottomline is this... the EE forum quickly was reborn in the form of the Entertainment forum and OS Neighborhood... so there is no reason to want or need that back.... so really the only complaint can be the political/religious talk.... and the bottomline is that there's no place for that on THIS Sports Gaming board. Not that it's not OK on other Gaming boards... but it does not work with what Steve... the owner... the guy who pays the bills.... wants.

What if we had an "anything goes" forum (within reason) but it cost $50 a year to use it per poster? Would you pay it?

It takes a lot for an immediate banning occur (an infraction or trip to the cell is more likely). It might surprise some to see what some posters do in "the cell" to get themselves banned. Just my opinion, but for someone to get permanently banned from OS, they've got to cross the line multiple times after being warned.

Hence why the mods here are so much better than the site I have referenced. I ended up getting banned because I made a redneck mod look stupid, no rule breaking was involved on my part.

And even a more rare instance where someone has been banned permanently. Some have been banned, but the percentage of those who are eventually allowed to return is exceptionally high. May not always be under the same name, but they are here.

Actually I cant. Thats why I made this thread in the first place. I know how most of you feel about sports, what teams you like, certain games and how you like to play them but I dont know folks here on a personal level.

Personally, I'm not worried about getting banned because I know I can discuss certain things in a mature manner. I may go overboard every once in a while (hence my current infraction) but I know how to make a point without resorting to namecalling, trolling, etc. I dont have a problem with the mods here. What the problem is for others is that some people hate authority on any level. I dont call you guys evil when you ban someone or cell them, I call it doing your job. I haven't had a problem with mods and adminstration since A.D. (After Doughty)

I can see where you're coming from though. I know you guys hate looking like the bad guys so I understand that you dont want to pull your weight around more than you already have to.

Well, religious talk I dont care for because I know that thats a suicidal mission. Politics could be cool. But its more than those two. For instance, I just got a PM yesterday about R and B artist Akon getting in some trouble over him dancing freaky with what turns out to be a 14 year old girl. With vid that may be unsuitable for children. 2 years ago, a thread like that would of been posted on the EE forum with no problem. Now, posters are resorting to PMs cause they think it wouldn't be appropiate for the way the forums are ran now. If you ask me, the vid wasn't all to indecent. No nudity or anything.

This is just an example of what I mean by mature discussion. It doesn't have to be political or religious or even porn related(I never cared much for the babe forum) but just something that adults discuss on a regular basis.

What if we had an "anything goes" forum (within reason) but it cost $50 a year to use it per poster? Would you pay it?
                          For 20 bucks. Hellll Yeaaa.

I don't think thats what they've said or eluded to, it is pretty simple, Steve doesn't want that type of discussion.

It would be nice to have an OS Alternative board that isn't the ProBoards Debate Club stuff. But c'est la vie.
