Anyone involved with Acting, Modeling, TV?

I've just started interviewing with different agencies and I have an interview tomorrow that I'm really excited about. Most of the stuff is TV and modeling which is what I was recruited for, but I was wondering if anyone else here has actually done anything like this and how it went for you.

I'm just looking for some people who may be in the know to give some feedback.

    Nice! Where'd you got noticed/recruited?

Talk to Mark Fossen (fossen). He has a pretty deep theater background and I know he's been around the country a bit. He could probably give you some tips or advice on an Acting Reel. Not sure about the rest.

I mainly do stage work, but ... yeah.

I've been around the business for almost 20 years, so I'll advise you where I can.

Not knowing what kind of feedback you're looking for, I'll start with this: You don't pay a dime. Lots of "agencies" are request money from you for various things ... if they do so, they are not reputable, and you should avoid them.

You live in Utah too? Cool dude. I live in Orem.

            I've been to some free seminars like that where they want you to pay. What happened to just getting hired cuz your damn good looking? [I'm kidding}

It's an agency in Utah called Craze. I don't know much about them. I've been scouted out at places like the mall, movie theaters from "undercover agents" looking for people. But I never took those seriously, I don't know, maybe I should have at the time. I'm looking for something more broad in scale as far as exposure in the industry.

It's actually something I'm possibly looking into making it a career.

Are you doing any stage work currently? Have you gotten to meet or work with anyone well known?

Yes, Fossen is a diamond in the rough... a very old... old diamond in the rough.

P.S. This Craze "undercover agents" at the mall thing... sounds a little shady. Be leary.

This particular one wasn't one of those. I pretty much just called this agency and gave them a little background info on myself and the woman sounded excited to have me in for an interview tomorrow. Now I don't know if that's because they are gonna try to get money out of me or if it's just a good business decision.

This isn't the only place I'm aiming at right now. It's just one of many. I'm starting to listen to people now and exploring all that's out there (as far as getting started is concerned).

I'm opening a show tomorrow night: Proof.

I've worked with some kinda famous people - mainly famous in theatre.

Here's a link to a message board for Utah Valley actors - you might find it useful: http://www.playersanonymous.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl

I don't know Craze - I've heard the name, but don't know anyone who's with them. Most of the actors I know are with McCarty or TMG. TMG, in particular, seems to be the "hot" agency right now.

Yeah I've heard about TMG. I'm gonna look into them. Theater is something I've never thought about, but it looks cool.

Thanks for the input, you've been helpful.

Did you expect to start on TV? Where did you learn your acting?

This isn't meant as snarky as it sounds...

Commercial work like film/TV/industrial/commercials ... it really has very little to do with acting.

It's about look, and your innate qualities. Look at most commercials you see - that dude eating his cereal, or the woman looking at a car ... it's not like you need conservatory training to pull that off.

Frankly, a trained stage actor like myself can be at a disadvantage. Playing an emotion for a 500 seat house is a very different skill than playing it for a camera 18" away.

Many, many people have very successful careers in commercial work never having taken a single class, or done any sort of stage acting.
