Go to the docs. There is a chance you won't have to but than again there is a chance it can get a lot worse and you mind end up having to go anyway. Good luck.

 Re: Strep throat

The only way to keep strep from completely debilitating you for about a week is to get to the doc and get an antibiotic. Depending on how your body responds the symptoms would be gone in about 3 days.

 Re: Strep throat

I'll preface this by saying I'm a 4th year medical student, so take it for what its worth......

Most sore throats are not strep throat. Most cases are viral infections, so antibiotics do not help. If a sore throat is caused by a bacterial infection, however, strep is the most common bug.

It's good you went to get checked out- the only way to definitively diagnose strep throat is by seeing your doctor.

The reason why strep throat is really worrisome is not because of the sore throat itself, but because of complications seen down the road. Untreated strep throat can lead to kidney problems as well as a condition called rheumatic fever, for which the most serious complication is damaging the valves in your heart."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

 Re: Strep throat

this little home remedy seems to work on many things:

Discover oil pulling, an Ayurvedic technique for oral detox and health. Learn how to improve dental hygiene and overall wellness naturally. Discover oil pulling, an Ayurvedic technique for oral detox and health. Learn how to improve dental hygiene and overall wellness naturally.

 Re: Strep throat

There are no home remedies, Pat. Strep is a serious infection that can cause big-time problems if you don't get on antibiotic.I think I am getting it. I have never had it before, so I don't know what to do.

I don't really want to go to the doctor if I don't have to. Is there any good home remedies? I have heard to gargle salt water....I have heard sleep...drink liquids...don't know what else...

Any advice would help. Thanks guys.

Go to the doctor. Get on antibiotic.

 Take care,

 Re: Strep throat

Have you had that done? I heard it was scary! lol
I had to have a camera tube in mine to test for some other issues that weren't STD. That was the worst pain I have ever felt. Also, there was this cute little nurse watching the whole thing. Man I had tears running down my face. lolLast edited by Scottdau; 05-06-2007, 05:14 PM.Comment

 Re: Strep throat

Ok so here is what happened.

The nurse asked me why I was there, blah blah blah. Then she says, "ok, I'm going to do the strep test." She then proceeded to stick the huge Q-tip down my throat to get a swab. But I don't think she did it right, it was from like the middle of my tongue. She left, to go test it.

Then the doctor walked in. She looks at my throat and says, "Yep, looks like strep throat. Good thing you came in. You will probably just be put on antibiotics, and it will clear up in no time."

Then she leaves to go get the results. Comes back and says, "Wow...Well, the test says you don't have it. So I guess you don't! If it doesn't go away or gets worse come back in."
